Ya.... I hunt with a bow, rifle and flintlock. My favorite is bow season. Just the time of the year, the attention to detail, prepping.... I will say our flintlock season after Christmas is a fun time to be out. Typically it's cold, some snow on the ground, the rifle season's been closed for a couple of weeks, deer are getting back to normal patterns, hitting food sources hard. Nothing like cutting a track after a fresh snowfall on a cold morning!

    Nice!

I got a buddy that likes to use black powder shotguns for turkey. I like the idea of using a weapon like that.

I've had two hang fires with my rock-lock. Neither were on deer, just at the range. I've had a few more than that with my inline. Typically when I'm hunting, I'll change the pan powder several times a day, especially if it's damp, rainy or snowy. Inline, just snap a cap on and go. Prolly should be just as picky...

I messed up a couple years ago. I had a decent 8 pt coming in everyday like clock work right at last light. Sighted my muzzle loader, cleaned it, loaded it, and put it in my truck toolbox for 2 weeks. It rained off and on through those 2 weeks. First evening I went out he came out right on time at 75 yards. I put it on him, squeezed the trigger and the gun hesitated and went off ever so slightly. The powder (pellets) were going straight at him leaving a trail of smoke, almost like slow motion. Got pictures of him the next few days but never saw him again. I learned my lesson, I keep my powder in the house and don't load until I'm ready to go hunt.

I had some pellets like that...I threw them in the trash...I missed a doe at close range. Took to range and couldnt even hit a 50yd target. Swapped to some better pellets and was good to go, now Im in a state that you cant use pellets so loose powder is all I use.

Speed of sound is 1125 feet per second. On a 25 yard shot it takes the arrow .250 seconds to arrive. The sound of the bow was there long before (.06 seconds) the arrow. And it takes a deer about .100 seconds to drop it's full body depth. Speed is good, quiet is better. Not trying to be THAT guy, but unless arrows are traveling close to or exceeding the speed of sound, string jumping is always a possibility.

I used to shoot a Hoyt Raptor Exce. Pushed a 535-ish grain arrow at 240 fps. This was late 90's. Got caught up in the speed thing and got some ACC's that weighed maybe 350 grains total arrow weight. They were fast, but the bow was loud. When I bought my Mathew Feathermax in 2000 I bumped up the arrow weight to around 420-430 grains. Was a good compromise of speed and quietness. It pushed those arrows around 280 fps and quiet. Sighted in for 25 yards and 40 yards. That bow was (and still is) a stone cold quick quiet killing machine. Set my LX and Hoyt HyperForce to shoot the same way. Mid weight arrow, 270-280 fps. The only time the deer seem to react is when the arrow hits. Too late then!!

Looking forward to upcoming time off. Everything I've been hearing here in southeast PA, is that bucks are on the move, starting to harass does.

It’s very quite. Don’t have a DB reader but probably the quitest bow I own. The QAD rest is what makes the most noise. It’s kinda a sharp thwack sounds
