We are gonna do our best. There's only 3 (2 actively hunting it for deer) of us on the 110 acres. We work as a team. We are more about turkeys than deer but I hope one of us at least gets a shot at him. He's still nocturnal but that neck says he is ready to chase. Unfortunately I have not seen him yet today and none of us can get back in here til next weekend.

It is encouraging to us that we have a county record on our property. For the last couple years we have been wondering if it is worth it. To us, he makes it worth it. I wouldn't have a problem with him spreading his seed another year but if someone on the adjoining property hasn't already shot him they definitely will. It's kind of a "redneck" county. No doubt someone would poach him if they saw him. ;o( Staying positive though.

It is exciting to have such a big deer on your property.

The biggest one I ever shot with a bow I didn’t know existed, he scored 165 1/8” non typical and I shot him with a compound bow at less than 10 yards. Missed him 2 different days prior to killing him but he kept coming back. It was late September 2003. At the time I killed him he lacked 1” of being the state record. He’s still a buck of lifetime for me in NC. He’s a 13 pt and weighed 195 pounds. About as big as they get around here. He’s got 2 sticker points above his eyes, one is 1” and one is 7/8”, they have to be 1” to be scored.

LOVE that drop tine. Hell of a deer man. Hope you get all of his brothers too!!!

Yes it is very exciting to us because we didn't think we had anything special there.

I killed one of his sons 10 years later. 9 pt with a 2” sticker on the same antler. This one actually makes the 13 look small because he is so wide.

I am just happy to have something to look forward to. Like I said, we are more turkey killers than anything so to have a deer like this around is huge for us. We are not as experienced in the deer hunting as others so I am sure we will have to plot a little to shoot him. We are more concerned with poachers than anything. They're plentiful where we are. We talked to DNR about the area and they patrol it as much as they can because a lot of people are shooting deer they "forget" to report or poaching.

Spent the last 2 days of modern out on a big island on public looking for a doe. My buddy had a shotgun (his archery skills are lacking to say the least). I didn't see a deer the whole time. He saw the first doe as it spooked an ran off. The second one he saw yesterday, the sling mount on the end of his mag tube got flipped up and he fucking shot it off as she turned to bolt. Clean miss on her, destroyed his sling mount. Only he could somehow shoot his own gun and still miss the deer. Late archery elk and late archery deer open up in 2 weeks. Hail Mary time

I was kinda pissed cause he texted me to come down, that last shot was his, was gonna wait for me to go look for blood. Long ass walk for him to sheepishly tell me what happened. I took a quick look for blood, but he asked why I was looking up. "Looking to see if your slug hit a tree after you shot your sling mount dummy". I won't let him live this one down for awhile, till he shoots something at least

It wasn't ruined as such. The hike back would have been a lot better with a deer on our backs though. This is a guy who once ran over his own foot with the back tire of his motorcycle while he was riding it and didn't crash. Of course he's going to be the guy to shoot his own gun with said gun.

It wouldn't happen to be this guy would it? I seen him on my way home one day. His foot was just flopping in the wind, while riding side saddle.

Evening guys! Ive been considering taking a nice black buck sometime next year. I feel I would enjoy the hunt a lot more by taking it with a crossbow. Would you guys be able to start me off in the right direction? By that I mean anything to point me the right way whether it be certain youtube channels, blogs, etc

I figured that was gonna come up. I aint too sure tbh. I would want a nice beginner type bow that will continue to service me for a good while. Idk what the ranges are for something like that.

I'm not a crossbow owner but if I were to start looking I would check out Barnett first. Then go from there.

I have a crossbow my wife bought me, depending on how much you spend can be a factor. I think mines was like $250 on sale, but some bolts and wax and site it in. It is fun to shoot but when hunting it is like having a rifle IMO. If you have a archery shop near by I bet they can assist you as they are getting popular.
