Thanks for the links! Are the non-resident tags for elk over the counter for most zones, or is it draw?

AKSig, New Mexico is 100% draw for out of state. To say the licenses are hard to get would be an understatement. Your chances are better if you use a guide, but not by much. This is my first draw after 15 years of trying! My brother has also been trying for 15 years. He has land outside of Cloudcroft, so he can get an over the counter landowner deer tag. He also purchased an over the counter bear tag so he can go with me onto national forest land. You also must have a "habitat stamp", and a "habitat validation stamp" to hunt. NM is crazy hard to hunt for out of state people. Google NMDGF for info and good luck!

Colorado is by far the best state left for out of state hunters. Many areas open with over the counter tags and a good opportunity to harvest an elk. Have been there many times! NM has always been on the back burner though, awesome bulls in southern NM!

Sounds like PA. Almost 30k applicants for elk and normally just over 100 tags allowed...this year it was 99 antlerless elk and 25 antlered. Not even sure if out of state residents can apply.

NM releases just 6% of all tags to out of state hunters. Something like 3500 people applied for 12 tags in the area that I was drawn for. About the same odds. Crazy lucky I am. Should start buying lotto tickets. But then, I need a new pack.

Got one of my ladders set up in the woods.
Love this spot. Swamp edge in front and steep hill in back. About a 70 yard wide choke the critters walk thru.. Got my nice 8 last year from that setup.
