They are tough animals, like the whitetail.

Monday opens up for any weapon season, do you guys hunt with a bow or switch over to rifle. If I go to my hunting blind I change it up when I go...sometimes I'll take my bow, other times I'll take a muzzle loader or rifle. Depends what I feel like shooting something with.

Michigan is pretty straight forward when it comes to seasons. First its bow/crossbow, then gun which the lower half of MI it's ML or shotgun and upper half its rifle.

Though if I had a choice, it would depend on the situation, are they coming in bow range often? Is there a bruiser around that you want no matter what....than I'd be packing heat haha!

Tom1.jpg Nice buck my brother arrowed yesterday. I had this buck at 12 yards last weekend, but it was dead calm and I knew that he would hear me draw and spook. Shot at 35 yards, Matthews Outback.

Been deciding between rifle and bow for the elk rifle season. After spending a few days running around the woods with a rifle for deer, it's not for me. Going out the last weekend of elk with my bow and going to hunt in the thick timber. I wish I could make opening day and the second weekend but with school and such, I can't. Should be a good way to close out my hunting season.

I'll keep telling myself my season is over, but another area will just be opening .

I stick with my bow, unless I am bringing somebody with me, and then I will take my muzzle loader or rifle and sit in a blind on the edge of a field. The woods I hunt are pretty thick so even if I took a rifle into the woods, it would be my 30-30 lever. I am not going to get a clean shot much further than 50-60 yards. Anyways, bow is by far my favorite.

We have some long shots here, but most of mine have been close range kills. I like sitting in a blind but I also like finding a good ambush spot and popping one at longer distance. My last buck was 165yds I think.

Farthest deer I've shot with a gun was 40 yards, 84 with my bow.

I bow hunt with a Rudder Bows Archery hickory longbow 45-55lb draw, (they went out of business earlier this year :( ) and wooden arrows. Not the most accurate with it, but I'm still searching for the perfect arrow and it's 72" end to end so that makes it tough to draw on a deer "just anywhere" in the woods.
I will say that the arrows hit extremely hard with this bow! I've shot clean through hay bales and gotten arrows stuck in cinder blocks holding my foam target down, splintered a couple that way too. Last week I shot through my steel shed with a bad release causing a flier, arrow was fine and shot straight afterward if you believe that haha!

Haven't had any time to hunt the last couple weeks. Hoping to get out this weekend. Muzzle loader season opens on Saturday but I think I will stick with my bow for at least another couple sits. It started to finally feel like fall, but then the weather was high 70s/low 80s all this weekend. Usually the rut starts to kick in at the beginning of November but I am wondering what effect these temperatures will have on the timing.
