Saw two doe last night around 6:30. Walked straight to my ladder stand, passed to the left, stopped right beside me. Then proceeded to walk straight away. Never turned broadside or at least quartering. Not a fan of a straight down shot.

Not to shabby for South Carolina National forest with no ag around for 50-60 miles. First one with the longbow as well since going full trad last year. Selling all my compounds and loosing my Bowtech sponsorship during covid was the best thing that could have happened to me. It pushed me to commit to the recurve and longbow and I’m so thankful I did!

    Outstanding!!!! :101010:

South makes fantastic bows. Makes me wanna put down the Hoyt. Remember reading about him way back in the late 90's in Peterson's Bowhunting.

Ya I have one of his wolverine fxt recurves and this coyote fxt. His bows are my favoite. I have a two piece Toelke that I had Dan make me and its a fantastic bow but the grip on Souths bows is perfect. Not to mention they are works of art. When I was in Wyoming last year I swung by his shop and picked out all the woods and everything I wanted for this build. He is a fantastic bow maker and hunter to say the least.

Didn’t hunt this morning, going out bout 2:00, pretty windy here. I’ll start morning hunting in a few days. Might check cameras tonight after hunt, that will determine when I start morning hunts.

This is how long I've hunted in Illinois....

When I started hunting there (30 years ago) both sides of this road was ankle high grass...no trees at all. Now it's full of climber-size trees, some are even too big for a climber.

It was at its best when it was about 5 years old, it was just a huge bedding area, but you could see deer when they were on their feet. Now its pretty much just woods, with alot of junk trees in it.
