That's awesome! I'd definitely be interested in this, especially if it's helping the vets.
    PM incoming.

I think I mentioned a few weeks back that the farm I hunt, roughly 1,100 acres was to be purchased by a land trust, Lancaster Conservancy. Conservancy owned property has some good and bad points. The bad. Most in this area suffer from over use. Several have been closed, or their parking areas closed because of this as well as trash being left behind, folks parking on adjacent private property... The good. They are usually open to hunting. Mostly archery. Typically no improvements are made. Maybe a parking area. No pavillions, restrooms, playgrounds, just the land left in its natural state. They will try and remove non-native flora if possible.

Two days before PA archery season opened, my wife calls me at work and asks if I saw the news about the farm. What news? Well it seems several news crews were at the farm, with our governor, to celebrate PA's newest state park. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Like they bussed, two school buses full, back to the farm to announce this. I emailed the CEO of Lancaster Conservancy (we've chatted quite a bit) and asked what the hell happened. Long story short, sale price of the property was $11M. DCNR was kicking in half, Lancaster Conservancy, the other half. So for the last year or so, LC was trying to raise the funds. They couldn't even get half. Several years ago, there was an adjacent property, roughly 600 acres that they managed to pick up for the bargin price of ~$5M.

And while it won't be developed, it will be improved. Playgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms, groomed trails... We already have several state parks and county parks in the area. All of them trashed. Trash receptacles unemptied. Graffiti on pavillions, picnic benches, dog crap on the trails, trash on the trails. All so people can enjoy the outdoors without any of the discomfort of the outdoors.

The kicker. Aside from hunting, folks good pretty much use the unimproved dirt road on the property. One trail cut followed the creek for about a 1-1/2 miles till it emptied into the river. Great smallmouth fishing. Good duck hunting too. Which they pretty much were ok with. People did have access to it. Somehow the state is going to "improve" it.

Saturday I found out what future seasons will be like. Heard more shooting in three hours than I did the last 5 seasons. Guys driving in the fields. Soda cans and McDonalds bags left where they park... Just WTF is wrong with some hunters?

    Just some Monday morning grumblings....

The more I hunt public lands the more I realize that people are idiots.

hell the wildlife refuge island we frequent as a family is now covered in shotgun shells and pieces of clay targets. I know the intracoastal waterway is full of lead because I have never met someone willing to shoot pigeons with steel shot. most of my days in the island I come home with at least a couple WalMart bags of garbage.

people suck. The government is ignorant.

I quit hunting in Pa. 2+ years ago after they started deer season on the Saturday after Thanksgiving instead of the traditional Monday opener. The "class" of newly recruited hunters - at least where I had hunted for 50+ years are a bunch of assholes - NO hunting ethics or courtesy towards other hunters!!!! My son does want to try Pa. to use my old Remington 760, SO I may go again next year.....MAY GO being the operative phrase.

The Pa. game Commission, like all big Service Providers are more interested in attracting new customers than keeping the ones who have loyally kept supporting it for years.....think Sirius XM, cable/dish tv, cell phone companies, etc. New customers get GREAT DEALS, while existing customers just keep getting charged more for the same services to support the discounts for new subscribers.

    MY rant is finished!!!

FORGOT this fact.....at least 2 if not 3 years when I had late year back surgeries and couldn't hunt, I still bought a license (one time was a week long only small game license) to still show my support for the Game Commission!!!

Fucking care free SLOBS…Glad I don’t have to deal with them or public land. I feel bad for the decent hunters who have to put up with it!

I don't agree with the Saturday opener either.
I have a cabin with 135 acres. Still go to the cabin on Saturday and don't hunt until Monday!

Remnants of the old rain blind, we named it that because me and a buddy built it in a down pouring rain about 40 years ago. Many deer were killed out of that stand.83FE3580-913C-41A1-A89D-3370E51FAFD1.jpg
