I’ve still got my Rem700 .243 that was given to me by my grandfather when I was a kiddo. Unfortunately the scope is toast and I’ve gone back and forth to let it be a safe princess or put a new scope on it

I understand that. Even though my 243 is a cheap no name model, I wrestled with the idea of hunting with it as an adult. It was obviously bought with the intention for me to hunt with it as a kid, and as I got older, it grew more sentimental and I just wanted to keepsake it. BUT, I remembered what it was for, remembered I can't take it with me, and it serves them best for me to still get enjoyment out of it to this day, so... I spray-painted it, gave it some camo, sling it around the woods, and use the hell out of it. I say throw a cheap scope on it, let this kiddos/niece/nephews take a jab at it, and pass on that special passion for hunting your grandfather helped instill in you to them.

Yea thats where im currently leaning. My 10 year old is a vegetarian so her hunting is a lost cause, but my 8 year old has been hunting with me lately. If she sticks with showing interest, it'll be hers soon

I traded off a Rem 700; I killed my first deer with it when I was14, also a handful of coyotes, but I doubt I'd ever shoot it again because the 600 is smaller and just feels better (to me). My dad gave me the 600 on my 30th birthday, I'll never get rid of it.
The 700 is the top one, 600 on the bottom

And getting back to the archery theme...

Get quality strings (GAS, ABB…) installed. Add 1/4 dia peep, serve in place. If strings are installed properly your peep will be in position every time. No need to worry about tubing.

That's the way to go, I've never used tubing.

Yea I don’t have that tube on mine. However, I did have to take my bow in 3-4 times to get the string pulled and twisted cause the peep wasn’t aligning properly. But as soon as you get the sweet spot, she will stay centered without that guide tubing

Thats definitely the plan for this season. Been looking at ABB since they have strings by model (and I didn't know anything about the string lengths for my bow). My bow is a camo pattern, so I'm thinking a fluro orange would be a nice offsetting color. Looks like there's 3 different tiers to choose from. I assume the most expensive is the "best", but does anyone have a recommendation for which tier to go with (pursuit/premium/platinum) for a pretty low end box store bow used strictly for hunting? Difference between premium and platinum is ~$30. My money goes to the platinum. I put ABB's on my Hoyt 1-1/2 years ago. Put a several hundred shots thur it in a week, went back the following Saturday for some tweaks, been good to go since. Think about it. This is what maintains the timing (or synchronization) between your upper and lower cams. Other places to save money.

Good to know, thanks guys. Just didn't know if there were certain differences between the three that would make one more preferable over the others. I truthfully don't know too much about archery, just bought this bow 3 years ago and started hunting with it lol. My thoughts were maybe there could be certain materials more preferable for outdoor elements, one more preferable for target, but not as good for outdoors, one maybe overkill for a cheap bow, etc. Sounds like the platinum is the way to go. Any recommendations on peeps? My only experience is the stock tubed peep. I also wear glasses FWIW if that makes a difference in recommendations.

Got my original stalker wolverine fxt recurve tuned for my current arrow set up. Will be my backup again this year. Love the bow but enjoy my stalker coyote fxt longbow a smidge more. Resharpened some heads, got everything dialed in for this fall. Early season opens here’s mid august in the low country, then headed back to Wyoming to chase mullies for 2 weeks in September, the back here to chase whiletails all fall.

Finally found some time to do my buck from last year that I shot with the longbow on wma. Turned out pretty nice.

Standard aluminum, colored if you like. Mines green, 1/4" dia. Seems big....it's not. Center the sight ring in the peep, good to go. 1/8" & 3/16" just don't allow enough light at at dawn and dusk. Trust me on that.

New jobs keeping me busy… parental unit just demanded that I get a deer this year since the freezers almost empty of “regular meat” and they’ve eaten about half of my deer

Hoping tomorrow to get out and stretch the bow after work. Maybe. Good news outta Pa though, pink tags (doe tags) are finally online!!!

Also, finally got all the ingredients to tan the hide. Now just gotta save up some comp time to take off and get her done.
