I now shoot a Bowtech SS34 bought last year, previous bow was a 2013 Bowtech Destroyer 350. I figure a new bow every 10yrs isn't overdoing it. On the other hand I have a 13 Tacoma TRD sport but plan on driving til the wheels fall off.

Stupid prices anymore for bare bow. Then accessories add $300-500

I think my black gold sight cost almost $400

my vap arrows cost about $100 per half dozen and my qad was like $120ish. That’s not including stab and quiver.

Crazy expensive, I swapped my rest and stabilizer to my new bow, I still have the destroyer for emergency backup. The SS34 is so smooth to draw, worth the upgrade. Only shoot like 62lbs but it's more than enough for deer, bear, elk.

I end up with rather long shots often enough or have been stuck in a Wyoming wind blowing in my face, 85y from a bull surrounded by cows, hence why I shoot a 80lb.

For the same reasons, I switched from my 1 pin to a dual track slider. Usually gets me where I need to be without the arrow hitting the sight.

Western tags are hard to come by so I take a lot of the low success ones just to be able to hunt, rather than waiting 10 years for a “good tag.”

I have 5 preference points for elk in Wyoming and would like to go within the next few years. Never shot an elk, went to Idaho in 21 with 3 buddies hunting from our backpacks and my buddy with tag shot a small 5pt high in chest cavity and we never recovered. Beautiful country out west. Was a 42hr drive one way, we spent 10 days there.

I go west every year. This year im taking a rifle though. such an incredible experience every time I go. Not only do I hope you make it out there, but I hope you get on em and knock one down! Hauling those monsters out is quite an experience to say the least

Yeah I may go with rifle too when I draw a tag unless I go with someone that can put us on elk consistently, never a sure thing, it's all about the experience.

IMG_5972.jpg IMG_5973.jpg This year will be my 42nd bowhunting season. At 60 years of age I find I’m hanging fewer stands and at lower heights. On the colder days I’m now reaching for a Excalibur instead of a Mathews. I’m wearing more layers to keep an aging body warm on those cold November mornings. Each year the drag becomes harder with more rest breaks and takes longer to recover from. All that said. Today I start planning, preparing and practicing for a brand-new season. I stop allowing myself to sit in a trophy room basking in the glory of past seasons. There will be time for that later.
    Once more into the fray…

On the days I hunt with a buddy (which is rare) we have to force ourselves to get out of the truck in the morning instead of just taking a nap.
When I hunt alone I can just take the nap. :anonymous:

Yep, I don’t typically do it when I’m with someone but if I’m alone and want a nap.. I’m napping. Only time I can’t let myself sleep is in a climber. Too scared of heights to relax that much

Most western states start in August. Some as soon as June.
