Long time compound bow hunter- I just traded mine for a 45# recurve. Does anyone have any recommendations for arrows? I plan on using it for deer hunting next year.

Under $10 an arrow... preferably $5 then I can practice a bunch. I shot the goldtip 400's out of my compound and they did alright. I believe they would be a little too heavy for the recurve. I've only ever bought 18 arrows for two different compounds over the last 12 years so my arrow experience is lacking.

If you already own those, it wouldn’t hurt to start out with them. A little heavier is never a bad thing, once you get used to them. But I do think this is where the traditionalist with recurves will step in and tell you that plastic veins are probably not the best choice for recurve as they might be a little too stiff and not be forgiving when going along the side of the riser when you release like traditional feather fletching would be. But I could be wrong, traditionalist speak up!

Agreed. Once rifle season goes out (and I have time to practice) I'll start with the goldtips and see where I'm at.

Picked up a Bear Arena 34 from Cabela's last night for $300. It's a 2015 model but had been forgotten in the back stock room until this past Monday. I went in Tuesday and saw it, but didn't buy it. I thought about it all day yesterday and when I went back last night, luckily it was still there! I shoot a 2007 Bear Element now, and I love that bow, but this will certainly be a nice upgrade. Can't wait to start shooting it, although I will wait until after the season is out, as there are some "suburban" (less than 10 acres) spots that I only hunt with my bow, and I don't want to switch it up yet.

Re: drop away rests, the only experience I have is with the Ripcord Ace, and I love it. I have had some other QAD accessories in the past though, and they have never let me down! Hopefully you get it squared away!

Hey! I resemble that remark! I bought a thousand dollar bow! But a couple years old and only $300.00! SCORE!

Thanks I'm pumped. I don't understand it either but to each his own.

That's the way to do it! I bought my current bow for $100 8 years ago. Usually $400 but 2 year old model.

I don't get it either especially when a bow doesn't hold its value like a gun will but yeah each his own.

Feathers have way more forgiveness when contacting the rest and the riser. The feathers will collapse upon contact and recover very quickly. I shoot both trad and compound. Even though use drop-aways on my compounds , I still shoot feathers, 4" right helical out of my compound. JMHO, the stabilize a fixed broadhead very well. Plus, well they're feather and they look damn cool.

If you want to see why using feather is important out of a stickbow, look at the video. Skip to 2:50 and watch the slow motion release.

Looking forward to this weekend. The first cold (for Texas) weekend of the year, should get the bucks out of the brush and moving around more. Have passed on a really nice 8 point several times, but that may change with the season winding down. The bow life ain't for quitters! Good luck out there!
