No but I have heard good things about them... I'm running a Limbsaver (per Tacomaman06's advice) and it's done a great job for me.

I now shoot a mechanical rifle(crossbow) thanks to a triple left shoulder crack in '72...not having read all the pages, anyone else relegated to a crossbow? As close to archery as I can get...favorite time of year, decent weather...

    I've lost count....
Crossbows aren't too bad - I cracked a limb on my Browning Compound Bow 2 seasons ago and my Archery season would have been over if it wasn't for the fact that my dad let me borrow his Parker crossbow. I got 2 deer with it during the last week of early archery season that year. Crossbows definitely have there advantages (easier to sight in / little to no movement when shooting at a deer) but also have some major disadvantages as well (very bulky/heavy, extremely loud, almost impossible to reload while in a tree stand).

Over-all I prefer my compound bow for Archery hunting, but my dad had quit archery hunting several years ago b/c he could no longer accurately shoot a compound bow. Getting a crossbow got him back out in the woods.

People tried to make a big stink about them when they were first legalized for everyone a few years ago in Va...but my opinion is if it keeps more people in the sport of hunting I am all for them. The majority of people that I have met using crossbows are people who use to archery hunt but had stopped for one reason or another anyway- if a crossbow allows them to "stay in the game" that is all good in my book.

Feel better now 2 tacomas, thanks!;) Doc at the V.A. suggested the move, as well as staying out of tree stands; eventually gotta have the right hip replaced as well as the left knee, plus the L5 disc is compressed... all part of Uncle Sam and aging I guess:p I still utilize my tree stands, but am triple dog sure I'm locked in. I've got the Parker Buck Buster and use Rage 100 grain b-heads; an awsome tip in my opinion.

We live in Roanoke County, and there's WAY too many deer; wish we could get an urban/doe only season, but so far the board has resisted...all my shrubs are stripped, and they roam in herds all along the ridge like locusts. I can remember when you were lucky to even see a deer, now it's hard NOT to see one. I've got a tree stand in the yard, and one in the woods along a fence 100 meters down the ridge line; not exactly a wilderness experience, but is nice on cold breezy days...

I say if it gets you out in the woods, go for it. I am all for the crossbow, and when my shoulders go to shit, I will buy one in a heartbeat. You are right, the rage is one hell of a head in my opinion, got my first deer with it, and will not use anything else.

Hows it goin? I just placed an order for a DXT but then started reading the specs for the Z7. For a little more, I get more accessories and a faster FPS. Wuddya think? Should I change my order?

i would love a crossbow. cool technology for sure. but for me, i love the adrenalin rush i get during the bow draw, staying quiet, moving slow...hearing my blood pounding in my ears. it is a real challenge for me. i would miss it with a crossbow.

I miss the rush also, but when your joints creak worse than a rusty screen door in a wind storm...:p I was surprised at how easy it is to cock a 150lb crossbow w/ a cocking device; I guess not having my left arm/shoulder extended for any length of time is easier w/ less chance of a botched shot. I limit my shots to 30 yards; the terrain pretty much dictates that, plus I feel most comfortable and accurate w/ that range. Had a dude in a Walmart tell me this past fall he got a head shot on a doe at 72 yards w/ a 175lb crossbow and scope combo...twas all I could do to keep from cracking up; one dude standing there said BS and walked off...a couple of us just stood there as he rambled on...whatever you shoot, while your young, get out as often as you can and enjoy the time you have in the woods etc.; time has a way of creeping up on one, and the things you once took for granted can become harder to accomplish over the years...now I must rest...

i love to do the bow huntin. i even hut with my bow when firearms season comes in because its so much fun. i have yet to kill a deer with it, but i have killed a number of squirrels and birds. somethin about shootin a squirrel with a bow makes it taste so much better. for anyone who has never tried this because they thought it would be too hard, just try it once. i got a few headshots on squirrels this year with my bow. it does a number on them

i also like to shoot 3-d but dont get to do it that often

Well, I did it. I changed my order for a new Mathews Z7 with black riser and camo limbs. My first bow and this fall will be my first hunt. Carabou, Moose, Bear. I can't wait!!

Any suggestions for a good rest, sights, and stabilizers? So many to choose from. I do know that I do not want the whisker biscuit. I like the drop aways. Hunting seasons not coming fast enough!

i love SPOT HOGGS sights! i have a 7 pin "hunter hogg it" with wraps. (long fiber optic strands wrapped in a circle around the sight circle) standing next to my bro in a regularly lit room, my sight glows brightly. you can even custom order the size of your sight pins. some guys put .19 pins from the 20 to 50, and then choose tiny .10 pins for the rest up to 80. my eyes are weak, so i did full .19. do not go any bigger if you use wraps. they glow too much when huge.

i shoot a ripcord drop away. zero issues for about a trillion shots. (i kid). 3 years and not a single missfire. but i do love the trophy taker drop away. there is a new sight on the market...let me get a photo.

here, this may change my bowsight plans. IQ bowsight. brand new stuff. it as a "no peep" type of alignment thing at the top of the sight. not sure if you even need a peep sight anymore. perfect shooting form everytime. talk about consistent accuracy.

Thanks for the input. I hear that the Spot Hoggs are quality but if you drop one, everything is out of alignment. Have you had any kind of problem with them? Are they really sensitive to bumps or drops? Ill check into the IQ bowsight. Whats your opinion on the QAD Pro rests? This will be my first bow so I just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks for your suggestions. Ill get pics posted as soon as I get it.

I am a die hard bow hunter. I still hunt with a Bob Lee Custom Take Down recurve. It has a 65# draw weight (which it a pain to hold back). I use a fast flight string. My arrows are cedar with a 70# spine weight. My ex-brother in law makes them and they are amazing. For broad heads, I prefer Wenzel Woodmans.

Never really heard/seen a paper tune before; could somebody shed some light on that?
