I honestly think besides looking killer it's easier when building it to see the twists.

I'll stick with my wrist release.
Arthritis is a bitch and I'm the most comfortable with it.

You were asking about realeases. Here are my 3 primaries. The wrist strap is a Scott Silverhorn primarily used for hunting and 3d. The middle is a Stanslowski thumb trigger I use mostly for field and 3d and then the True ball HT hinge I use mostly for indoor. Literally any of these styles can be used for any purpose. It’s basically a matter of practicality a hinge style release just isn’t as practical in hunting situations. If hunting is your primary use and some 3d thrown in your wrist strap is fine. Thumb triggers work well also but if used properly your still using back tension.

Thanks Chris! Those are some nice releases. Im going to keep shooting my wrist release, but if I find a cheap thumb release I’m going to try it out. I’m not quite comfortable with the idea of a hinge release yet. I feel like I would send an arrow flying into the wild blue yonder or something. From what I’ve read those Stans are some of the best! But of course, I wouldn’t expect you to have anything less.

I've been trying to shoot some and when it warms up and it's not windy or raining I'll get out and do some more. I just don't have the strength to hold still in the wind much yet. Perhaps we'll get together and shoot some before the summer is out

Worth a try! Plus if you buy one, keep your wrist release as a backup in your field bag! Cant tell you how many times I've had my hunting buddy's text me from the tree stand telling me they forgot their release in the truck!

I use a carter chocolate. I’ve gone back to a spot high wiseguy for hunting after losing the thumb release chasing elk few years ago.

Shot a fun traditional 3D shoot this past weekend. Took 3rd out of 84 people in my class, 420+ participants total. It’s probably our biggest traditional shoot of the year in So Cal.

I always thought a thumb release was a back tension release. Thats kind why i never switched?

I have used a thumb release for the last couple of years. I like it for the most part but might try a trigger again if I get the chance.

I haven’t shot my bow since July, kinda doubt I can even pull it back.... no good no good.
They kinda look the same but work different. I would only use a back tension for paper competitions. People that use them have hell in the wind I’ve noticed.

So I bought a Carter Insatiable 3 off of Archery Talk and received it yesterday. Got out and shot it a little, and I really like it. With a little more practice I think I’ll be comfortable enough with it to take it hunting this year.

Thanks! The only thing that sucks is CWD zone so can only take skull cap or have everything taxidermied in the area. But I’m stoked! Also drew a 2B any legal weapon for deer so it will be a good first year hunting big game
