Definitely does! I got my nephew a deer this past fall with cross bow! It was amazing to see his reaction when he got the clean shot. Wasn't a big one by any means but we hunted for that deer so it was all worth it! IMG_20171016_214256.jpg
And yes that's his bolt through the middle of a turnip, which is what my food plot consisted of!!

My home range, does anyone else shoot in the backyard? Which targets do you shoot at, i.e. brand and or type?

The barnet still sticks them in this target pretty deep. Its good tough target though!

Because with a true back tension release you do not know when the release is going off, hence you cannot anticipate the release. You only have to remain focused on your sight picture. The issue with a trigger fired release i you can "feel" when the the trigger will break. That can lead to anticipating the shot and sub consciously gripping or tightening up the grip. That induces torque, and torque be bad. As others have said it can lead to that insidious sometimes almost incurable beast called target panic. With that said the vast majority of bowhunters use a trigger release for hunting because you DO need to time your shot. Bottom line is, shoot what fits and feels best to YOU.

Nothing better than shooting in your backyard!! Eventually I'll replace the bags and bag stands with 3D targets. I keep checking Craigslist for some. This will be my first summer in this backyard and already alot of arrows have been shot! Success in the Fall starts in Spring!
Exactly! He loved it! He's coming back this fall!

Go to local 3D shoots. Many of the clubs will sell off the old targets. I'm up to10 3D targets now.

Aren't you suppose to wet your finger and point it up in the air to get wind direction ? I don't think a windmill will be around all the time..

Yep, I am going to stick to the wrist release. I am scared to jinx myself, but in my 13 years of bow hunting, I haven't fallen victim to target panic...yet...

My Brother in Law had it bad, and that's why he picked up the tension release. He has the yips so bad now, though, he tries not to even shoot his bow when it's not in season. Poor guy.

A guy I worked with said he had the bad habit of trying to look at his arrow once it release...said he wounded a super nice buck because of it...just something you have to practice to NOT do.

very true, practice don't make perfect. perfect practice makes perfect. your shooting should be second nature. if your hunting and second guessing your shot don't take it

    ^^This^^

I tell my son don't worry about making a perfect shot. Worry about perfect form. The perfect shot will follow.

The yips? The only other person I heard call it that was Jim Dougherty. My absolute favorite outdoor writer.
