Running a 12.5” wide tire on 4.75” backspacing (8.5” wide wheel) with a 1.5” spacer. I should probably get a slightly larger spacer. I assume I will probably damage the shock over time if I keep it how it is

Just following up with the loud metal on metal clunk I was having in the rear over small bumps. I finally figured out it was due to my Kings not being charged with nitrogen. I was told they were shipped charged but they weren't. NO CLUNK ANYMORE!! Rear end is now working great with the shock relocate and hammer hangers!

    I have questions…
Where were the shocks ordered from?
Were the shafts extended or collapsed?
During install, did the shock shaft freely cycle in/out of the shock body?
    So confused

They came collapsed but cycled freely. I didn't really think anything of it during install cause I had been working on the truck for 12+ hours and just wanted to get it done. I figured maybe that was normal for these type of shocks?
But after days of trying to figure out the clunk I started to question it and realized they needed to be charged.
Don't really want to say what shop since they were super helpful with everything, but how often do these shocks get shipped uncharged from King? There were no warnings or anything that said these shocks aren't charged and I rarely see anything like this on forums. Maybe I'm just dumb and should've known better...

This would be the first sign
I’m not a shock dealer but AFAIK Kings are shipped in their respective boxes (oem replacements/custom) charged. Can’t say I’ve seen new shocks sent out without nitro. Maybe others with different experiences will chime in.

Now I know lol, just didn't think anything of it at the time...

These were still in the box, straight from King, so I agree they should've came charged. The shop even said they normally come charged from King as well.

There’s been a few instances I’ve personally seen where shocks get shipped uncharged. I can’t remember their vendor origin but I’ve seen it with king specifically. Can’t remember if Fox had the same issue. I’ve done several installs where the customer didn’t know the shocks weren’t charged, but usually it’s indicated in the paperwork somewhere.

Sometimes the experienced install guys will overlook reading the instructions so it took me a second to figure it out too.

I’ve received king shocks both charged and not charged. If they’re collapsed without anything holding them like that, that’s a sure fire way to know.

I looked through the instructions multiple times and nothing stated that they may be uncharged or that they needed to be charged prior to use. I guess the person installing just has to have the knowledge to recognize it. Oh well, at least I figured out my problem, and maybe this post may be useful to someone in the future.

If I recall there was a separate sheet in the box with the shocks that says to charge them to “xxx psi”.
You’re correct though: still a worthwhile thing to note for others that might find themselves in the same situation.
I wonder if there is a discount for uncharged shocks or it’ll people are paying the same price across the board.

    Whole lotta stuff
If anyone needs some cheap shocks to run with the relocation, I have some fox 2.0x14s that need a rebuild/revalve that I'm getting rid of for cheap. Fitment seen below.

Removed some stuff, added some stuff.
Anyone with a long bed sporting these? The wheel wells are a bit different on the long beds so I’m curious how they mount up if anyone has done it.

This is probably on more than 500 long beds, it uses a 1" spacer between tower and wheel well
