    Going this far north where it is this cold, would it be a good idea to take off the air intake duct before the air filter so the engine is consuming warm air from the engine compartment rather than drawing in -20 degree air from the outside? Would it make a difference in keeping the truck warmer?

    I ask cause I have no clue or experience.

    From my experience driving in the same climate and areas that OP will be; very few people bother running winter fronts with gasoline powered vehicles. Temperature regulation may have been an issue with older engine designs; where thermostats had a difficult time maintaining coolant temperature... I do see the practical application on a diesel, though.

    Intake air temperature and keeping the truck warmer have little to no correlation. The function of a winter front is to deflect the amount of air that circulates over the radiator - thus, making the coolant "warm up" faster.

    Seems as though this has turned into a BS thread! Wonder how the OP is doing?

    OP, if you make it to Bellingham for your border crossing - I've got a copy of the Milepost that's yours!

    Hello team,
    Apologize for lack of updates:
    I left NorCal early morning on Sunday only to get stuck at mile post 2 in OR for 9 hours. The OR AM-1610 radio(and big sign board after CA border) mislead truckers early in the afternoon by not mandating chains for big rigs(there were two accidents already up top because of black ice and slush). This was a disaster waiting to happen. Multiple big rigs got stuck and traffic piled up(almost till CA border). By the time they pulled one truck at a time and got to the semi in front of us it was 11:46 PM (I got there at 3:10 PM PST). DOT trucks had to push each truck over the pass and come back for more. Road was closed for all traffic after exit 1 North bound( I was at mile 2, one mile south of all the skidding, sliding and CB cursing). Well, once I got out I had to stay for the night in Ashland, OR. There goes my plan on day 1!!!!

    Any way, truck getting juiced up

    Here is how I have solved my sleeping needs(many people asked me about it):
    Seats off:





    Add two yoga mats and then sleeping bag...its tight. I'm 5.8 and I can barely clear.
    Anyway, getting back: See the clouds?

    Stuck in traffic"

    12:00 AM after getting unstuck

    Day 2: I crossed over the border.

    Go for Hwy99 north via Squamish - Lillooet for the Scenic route! Couple of side roads there to make it real interesting if you're interested.
