Shock towers are next, but the J-arm UCA I'm planning will make them much, much easier to deal with.

are you still going with the horizontal uniball idea?

I’d consider using thicker material or adding some internal gussets. That’s for sure going to bend

    Not the greatest pictures, but a little dimensional reference.BE5F26D8-49AC-44C9-A5B3-D851C0DE1740.jpg 8605AECD-B90E-452A-881D-F35246559751.jpg 4E44C882-AAF6-44D0-B4ED-6BA565088A04.jpg 635FEE8E-FE36-45A4-95A8-4308C7CF1A75.jpg

Any thoughts on why the upper uniball is on the spindle and the lower is on the arm? Not both on the arms?

Pretty sure that’s the dirt designs kit. My guess is that because the upper is vertical and the lower is horizontal it is just ease of fabrication to integrate them into their perspective components. Vertical uniball into an upper control arm would be difficult

I'm doing vertical on both. A piece of tube tangential to the uniball, and perpendicular to the uniball bolt seems easy enough on both upper and lower.

What @snowsk8air2 said essentially. They explained the reasoning in detail, but I can’t recall exactly. Had all of Afghanistan and the last six months to forget.
With that set up, the UCA uniball limits steering.
They explained all sorts of other negative phenomenon occur during outer limits of LCA articulation, especially after a certain downward angle, so having the uniball in the other other direction wouldn’t benefit from that added range of motion. With only an 8” coilover it’s not even a matter worth considering.

I guess ease of fabrication makes sense, with a boxed A arm the uniball on the UCA would be a pain, on a tubular J arm it will definitely be easier, probably easier than putting it on the spindle.

The uniball is sitting where the axle will go, and the left side of the picture will be the top of the spindle. The uniballs will go between those double shear tabs.

Yeah, I can't get the spindle into the wheel without them. Those are the same spidertrax I had on the truck before, so not a big deal to keep using them.

Still maintain same track width front and rear?

No, it means I'll end up 1.5" wider in the front than the rear. I'll either live with it, or replace the axle.

A little wider in the front is better for handling. You’ll be fine with it like that

Yeah, it won't look too crazy. I was more interested in ditching the spacers to stay narrow on the trials and save my bearings.

Then reshape your spindle a little bit so it will clear the rims with no spacers. Don’t think it’s too late for that.
