Use your garage floor as a straight edge to check.

If it's just one that's off we'll double the plate, rather than grind the other 7.

Alternatively, cut them off and grind the tube smooth, and we'll have some new ones ready to go on when you get here.

There are 4 legs per slider. I think 2 are off by less than 1/8". Ill try to make them all match before I come up.

+/- 1/16" is good tolerance for this. I can make that up with weld very easily. The issue is when the longest leg is more than 1/8" different from the shortest.

Never bought into " you won't have a calculator with you". Having a calculator isn't the issue. It's knowing what math you need to do that's the issue.

And that later part is where math education falls down, because most teachers, especially below the Calculus level, don't know eneeno about the world to know why youlyo need what they are teaching.

Of course the rote memorization also sucks, but it turns out to be important later.

Yeah I consider myself good at math and I’ve never seen one of these, nor understand it’s purpose.

A and B scales are for multiplication or division.

First you adjust the decimal point to make both numbers <10, then you line up the 1 on the B scale with the first number in your product. Then you find the second number I. The orodupr on the B scale, and see what it lines up with on the A scale.

Slide rule, it's the pre-digital calculator.

Each set of scales is used for different operations, based on the linear/non-linear transforms.

For instance: multiplication (2*2) is the same as Logorithmic addition (log2+log2). So the scales are marked in log space, which makes a much more compact numberline.

Yeah I kinda see how it works. I’m sure if I had one I could figure it out.
