My 2017 Tacoma had some issues but they were mostly
TSB things. It got the job done

If you want the most robust Tacoma get atleast a 2020 and a TRD off-road. They beefed up quite a few parts for the off roads and the go to solution for fixing many of their TSBs has been to put the off-road parts in the non off-roads.

I think you mixed up 3rd gen Tundra with 3rd gen Tacoma lol.

Its 3rd gen Tundra engines that have recall, 3rd gen Tacoma has no known engine recall or issue. Which is why it has remained as best selling midsize since 2016 to 2023.

    2018 Tacoma :

Other than that, you must drive Taco first. Its smaller, has less power so please test drive it first before you make such big down size from V8 Tundra. Tacoma is not as good as work truck as Tundra, its more of a off road overall reliable & capable mini truck

All I’m going to say is it’s a very capable midsize truck. I’ve done some pretty truckie stuff with it and it impresses me all the time. I think people just need to understand it’s capabilities and not expect it to be a 2500 diesel .

We are not getting rid of wife's 2016 Sequoia. She has another car for daily driver but for weekends and road trips, there's nothing like a V8, and the seats are soooo much more comfortable compare to Tacoma.

You are not saving much on gas if you drive couple hundred miles a week. 15mpg vs 17-18.

What do you have for a Tundra? I have a 2022 Tacoma I would get rid of if the deal was right.

IMO Yes, just read the threads in this forum and draw your own opinion. I read all the threads and knew they were nothing but problems and bought one anyway it’s a love hate situation.

They started out in 2016 with head problems, timing chain cover leak, bypass pipe leak and eight years later still have the same problems. Oh and I left out the whining differential.

    That's not a recall...

There are over 1 Million Tacomas sold with 3.5 V6. That thread is 0.1% and yes there are issues outside. I assume its 1% or 2%. The 4.0 L also had issues, and so called 5.7 V8 bullet proof of Tundra did too, at first it was horrible engine. My point is that, Tacoma is most reliable pick up truck, just as 4runner is reliable SUV. The number of failed units is nothing with sale count. Yes it does suck for owners, but nothing is perfect. My brand new truck too came with dipstick that had metal chipped on the tip, hope nothing got in the engine.

But yea they don't make them like they used to, but still I consider 3rd gen as last reliable Toyota pick up.
