Will 3rd gen pads and rotors work on 2nd gen? Found a deal on marketplace, guy is selling brand new slotted and drilled rotors and brand new pads for a 100 bucks.

You feel u need slotted/drilled rotors. There made for a reason, tacos really don’t fit that reason but it’s ur money

I have same question. Someone is selling low mileage 3rd gen rotor and calipers on Craigslist off a TRD and wondering if they will fit my 2nd gen TRD. Coming up on 200K on my truck and thinking may be good to swap out to a newer set.

Yes. looks like the brakes are the same from 2005 to current (2022)

Used brakes... I've pad slapped (just swapped pads) a number of times if the rotor surface looks perfect. but re-using used pads? thats not something I would suggest. QC976 pads can be had for <$30 online.

Drilled and Slotted... enjoy your cracked rotors... I am definitely not a fan there.

Hell, on my tacoma I am frustrated by how strong they are, I have to be careful to have a feather touch... and I am on 35s! (but I have the TRD OR version with the electric brake booster.)

I had drilled a slotted rotors on my 96 4WD for a couple years with zero issues. It takes extreme high heat to make those cracks they're referring to, like in a race situation, but this is the internet where most everything is exaggerated to the extreme.

Sort of. I have had those spider cracks on my track car with AP racing brakes. Obviously extreme conditions.

More importantly, I have seen rotors spider crack on a street vehicle when hitting that puddle just right with the brakes warm. Everyone can have a different experience with all these variables.

I would bet 90% yes they are interchangeable. We know the wheels are swappable between gens (of same lug pattern), so this means the brake rotors should be a swap..

And then I highly doubt Toyota being as conservative as it is, chose a new caliper design for the 3rd gen.

And this helps him answer his question how?

Thanks for the replies. My current pads and rotors still have a lot of life left, I was just curious if they would fit. I thought it was a good deal and thought about getting them just to have for the next time it needs pads/rotors.
