I already test drove one and I liked it a lot. Admittedly it was a short test drive but I had no problems with the way it drove. My only hold up is that for the cost you can get a lot more for your money with some of the other brands as far as features go (Apple Car Play, Parking Sensors, Cameras etc.) I have always seen Toyotas as bare bones but highly reliable vehicles which justifies their higher price. If the Tacoma isn't reliable then there is no real reason to get one over the competition.

I think the difference between this forum and other forums is that people that own Tacomas are enthusiasts and very passionate about the vehicle they drive. Tacomas have a cult following unlike any other mass produced vehicle that is built for the masses.

What model you looking to get? My OR had all except apple car play but I’ve got along fine without it.

My 2016 Tacoma has had fewer issues than my wife's 2013 Prius. It's a Toyota. It's my 7th going back to 1978. I fully expect to have it 10 to 15 years. Just don't take it off any high-speed jumps and it'll last.

I'm looking at either an off road with the premium package or a limited. I would also consider a TRD Pro but I don't like the hood scoop and don't feel like paying a premium for off road features I would never use. Honestly I would like an SR5 but I want leather and the blind spot monitoring so it has to be at least a Sport.

100% agreed, ,but also kinda disagree.

Tacomas have a large and loyal sub-community similar to Jeepers and Subie bros which is a rarity sure, but a lot of folks also just buy a tacoma because it is good and reliable, and that's sorta the end of it. I've spent days and days fussing and fretting over stuff on mine, but my coworker just has his because its a truck and it doesn't really break. He'd just as gladly buy a Chevy tomorrow if he liked it better.

yeah this forum definitely doesn't accurately represent the full gamut of Tacoma owners. Where are all the pool guys and auto glass dudes and parts-runners?

You joke, but this is the perfect metaphor for the third gen - maximized volume in minimum space, easy to use, and secretly better than you're willing to admit to yourself.

On this note. I loved the 2011 F-150 Ecoboost I had brand new when it came out. I had to let it go at the time because I was getting married and was paying for my own wedding. I would have purchased it again however I just wanted a smaller profile. I've know from friends and family that still have their Gen 1 and 2s and they're tanks so I followed suite. I expect the same out of my new Taco and have been loving it so far.

I have zero experience with any Toyota product prior to my '17 DCLB. With that being said, I've had a lot of cars (all VW/Audi). You will always find people that think what they have is best, and that a couple little problems represent a new generation being horrible. I went from a Mk3 GTI, to a Mk4 Golf, to a Mk5 GTI, to a Mk2, to a Mk1 (still have it), and finally got a '12 A3 (basically a Mk6 GTI). Every single time I got the newer generation, I'd hear people tell me I should have stuck with the prior generation. Of the 15 cars I've had prior to my Tacoma, I never had an issue I didn't create myself. If a car manufacturer made a perfect car, you wouldn't see anything more than a face-lift from year to year.

I'm a measly 6k into my Tacoma, but it's been great. The Tacoma is the only reason I bought a truck, or a non-VW/Audi product...period. It starts up everyday, and my only issue has been blowing a fuse when I didn't follow the instructions during the install of my TRDmod anytime rear+front camera. Big deal... that cost me $3 to fix, and I learned a little something. My buddy @TAF_Taco is 15k plus into his '17 ACLB and hasn't had any issues I'm aware of. Its a great truck, just like those before it.

The off road holds it value better than the lesser models. The pro is in its own class as far as resale value but that is availability that drives that. But it sounds like you wont be getting one of those anyways. I wouldn’t get a limited but that’s just me, to much chrome. The sport has that hood scoop you don’t like and price between a sport and off road are about the same. You say that you wouldn’t use the off road features now but down the road you might find a use for them picking up a new hobby or something. But for the features you want I would suggest the off road you can drive home from the dealer happy. You could also add the features you want to an sr5 but that could drive the cost up in $ amount and time invested.
