I will add to my earlier post that I too was and am on a budget for my Tacoma mods. I went with sliders and tires first. After that I slowly pieced together my other larger more expensive mods i.e. suspension/bumper/softopper etc. over the course of 2 plus years. The whole process has spanned since Oct. 2016. You don’t need to buy everything all at once, although this can be more cost effective with shipping, package deals and such.

I guess my advice is if you’re willing to be patient and space the purchases out a bit you can get exactly what you want and not blow out your budget. In the mean time you can log more trail/beach time in your stockish truck and see what you actually feel you need.

Lastly get things on sale, most come up around the holidays and 4th of July is right around the corner!

I didn’t like 5100’s on road, the digressive valving wasn’t for me. I tried them on the stock springs and then eibach springs before going a different route.

I ended up with a set of kings. Non adjustable fronts and adjustable rears with the stock valving from king. I had a chance to ride in a few trucks after I did my set of 5100’s and realized the differences. When the kings popped up for sale locally at a big discount I jumped at the opportunity. I had a chance to ride/drive the eibach, 6112, fox dsc before I bought these. I watched a ton of video’s talking about the different valving styles between brands and although they are overkill, they are very comfortable both on and off road. There are a lot of guys really happy with 5100’s they really aren’t bad, I’m just not a fan of digressive valving. The 6112’s are digressive also but the spring rate is softer and seems to be a better match for the Tacoma.

    Good Morning all,

I used to have Tacoma TRD Sport with Billy 5100 with OME 887 suspension. So this is different and I am asking for a friend. His wife has motion sickness every time she rides in her husband's Tacoma TRD Sport. He rode in my Tacoma with his wife, and notice she doesn't get any motion sickness in my truck.

Would Billy 5100 with Factory coils reduce motion sickness? No plan to lift it, only to swap the struts, thats all. Does he need to change AAL?

I've noticed my new 5100's reduce body roll and overall make the truck much less squishy, so I'd say yes it would help for sure, and also yes you can just swap out the shocks leaving stock leaf's rear and springs up front. Does that make sense?

I just put on 5100's and they are much more stiffer than stock, I don't do any off roading. So I can't say anything about how good they are out in the wild.

Link to what I did getting 5100's 2" lift and one size bigger tires.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2022-tacoma-trail-edition-4×4.723589/page-55#post-28391533

I have the 22' SR5 Trail and wanted (not needed) better suspension than the stock SR5 shocks along with beefier tires. Hindsight is yes it's much better than stock however shoulda just waited till I needed new tires and done it then, but I money burning a hole in my pocket so it's done.

With the type of off roading I do this is more than I'll need as my rock crawling phase was over when I sold my FJ80 Land Cruiser I'm older now and some one else can have that challenge.

I've had my truck since March 2017. Started out with 5100s front and back, no lift for back. Ran 265/75/16 tires for a long time. 40,000 miles ago, went to a 285/70/17 on the 4runner trd wheels. Within the past year or so, I finally upgraded the suspension to Dobinsons up front (2" or so), Icon RXT leaf springs & shocks in the back. Needed the lift while still carrying a load. Along the way, its gotten a full front bumper & winch, camper shell, ARB skids, frame mounted sliders. 170,000 miles and still chugging right along.

It'll off road, and go most of the places you want to go right off the showroom floor (within reason of course). Will all the other stuff help? Sure.....but don't get to caught up in the "gotta have it to go off road" mindset. Enjoy the truck how it is, then decide what needs to be done.
