Imo, having a 5' bed is only good for hauling groceries. I sometimes wish the 6' bed was a bit longer, but that's why I have a 5x10 utility trailer.

The only thing I would do differently if I were buying now is look for a crew cab SR5 with a long bed. Not only do I like the looks better, but the extra length would be helpful.

Not sure if anyone also stated those 4 cylinder tacoma sr's all cost those prices new, so why buy used. I have noticed the new access cabs don't sell as often, or seem to stay on the lots when the crew is spoken for prior to even arriving.

Ocassionally, I have people ask if my Access Cab is cramped. I show them pictures of my previous vehicles (81 Vette, 280 ZX). Normally when I get to the 86 MR2, they say no more.

    Yes, interesting stats here.

    From the article......

"Between the lines: Survey data from vehicle research firm Strategic Vision shows a third of today’s pickup owners rarely or never use their truck for hauling, while two-thirds rarely or never use it for towing."
    • Instead, experts say, much of the big pickup mania is being driven by consumers' self-image.
    • "Today, personality and imagery are playing an even more important role in how consumers choose which truck is right for them," Strategic Vision researcher Alexander Edwards told Axios.
    • The firm surveys owners each year about the character traits they associate with their vehicle. Two words set F-150 owners apart: “powerful” and “rugged.”

Still most, D.C. owners want a bigger rear seat area and here is when most should of bought a full sized truck.

This thread is just a bunch of lesser-model owners desperately trying to justify their regretful purchase.

I think it’s a great thread for those still deciding. It should help them consider things they might not have thought of on their own. We all have different wants and needs and nobody is wrong.

    But that said, AC’s rule!

Why does the red one look like the bed has been set on fire?

Another validation factor on the long bed is when I go riding my mountain bike. Granted I have to remove the front wheel (which is easy) and the bike can lay flat with the front tire and lock it up via the tonneau cover. You ain't storing a MTB inside the bed of a 5' box (maybe if you broke down the rear wheel which is a PITA) which is why you'll see tailgate pads for bikes that have the front bottom side of the frame sitting on the gate with the front tire hanging out. Doesn't work well if you need to run errands after the bike ride (6' bed plus lockable tonneau cover #1!).

We should still be happy that Toyota gives us an amazing THREE choices when it comes to cab and bed combinations.

I mean, if people still used trucks for truck things we should be able to buy a short cab standard bed, short cab long bed, double cab short bed, double cab standard bed, access cab short bed, access cab long bed variants, but we will never see that again.

You know the bean counters are telling them to only make one cab and bed combo for the next generation.
