Are access cab Tacomas not that popular?

Gotta tell you I go back and forth: I adore my access cab, but when needing to bring others along... actually I change my mind. It's a good thing adult sized folks don't really fit back there, I can just save some gas there if we're running around the city and make someone else drive hehehe

I’m still hoping for Toyota to make an AC with a short bed and wheelbase same as a regular cab. That would be an amazing off road vehicle.

It’s really sad when we go in for maintenance because the people treat them like work trucks that drive them into the garages or open the hoods under lifts with cars on top of them … Thunk! as they open the hood too high.

Unicorn! Next thing you will tell me is it never needs brakes , the window regulator never failed, and you never replaced a door handle. Seriously clean, no rust, ever seen winter?

AC gang ! I prefer the 6ft bed, and I enjoy the feeling of the smaller cab. Mine is a 4 cylinder, manual transmission. Absolutely love it. It's the exact trim model I wanted, and when I found it I pounced. The 4 door short bed models are obviously far more popular...and I understand it. There are times that a back seat would be nice. But the proportions look off to me. Like a boxer with short arms. Maybe it's bc I'm so used to mine now. Love the dialogue though!

I had one very similar. It was a Buick full size wagon, Green like that with fake wood panels on side. Was early 1980's. Fold down rear seat and luggage and 3 kids and dog fit back there. Put foam mattresses for the kids and it was like a big playground for them. 403 cu inch engine only got around 8-10 mpg.

Eventually suburban dads will stop using pick up trucks for family cars and then the people who actually need them for work and hauling stuff will be stuck with a bunch of undesirable cab and drivetrain options not worth a shit.

$65,000 leather trimmed double cab with 2 feet of legroom in the back and a 3 1/2 bed.

It has had front and rear brake jobs. I had to take the rear drums to a commercial truck shop because I couldn't find an auto parts store that did 3/4 ton (HD) drums. No window regulator but yes, door handle (what's up with that?). Your forgetting the wiper PCB. Are those really things to get upset about on a 31 YO truck? Driven year round including many trips to the beach. Always follow up with an undercarriage wash and Eastwood chassis paint touch up every fall. Remember, winter in NC ain't like winter in PA or western NY.
OK I'll spill it. Painted 5 years ago.

lol I had to think through how I manage the very difficult task of loading groceries in my AC... like I've never had any issues figuring it out, and I wasn't even sure what my process is in my head... you described it perfectly how I do it

I'm really anxious to see whether or not they keep the access cab on the 4th Gen. If they don't, I'll probably be trying to track down one of the last 3rd Gen access cab TRDORs.

I want a Kei truck, but they are not completely legal here in California.

Unavailability of manual transmission and 6ft bed in double cab means Access cab for the win.
2017 3rd gen 4 cyl. 5 speed would be sweet if I could find one here.
I think the split here is about 50/50 AC/DC (heh).

Looks like Chevy got rid of the 6' bed in their Colorado. I won't buy a truck with less than a 6' bed.

Don’t make me tell you the superiority of my beloved Access Cab Poverty Package for use as an actual truck to haul things in the bed compared to other models. :D

    @davidstacoma

I own another truck with an 8ft bed, and I also have a 5x10 trailer lol. I didn't get my Tacoma as a 'work truck'.. Honestly calling any Tacoma a "work truck" is laughable at best. The only 'work' place that drives a Tacoma that I've seen is Napa Auto Parts to deliver supplies/parts to body shops (it's an AC). I'm just saying, if you actually need a work truck or bed space you shouldn't be looking at a Tacoma at all. Everyone's budget is different though, and that's why a lot of people chose the AC route.. but don't try to cover it with the awkward excuses as justification.. I'd rather you just say that you didn't want to spend the money on a DCLB.
