Are access cab Tacomas not that popular?

Pretty much, but there is a great deal of freedom in not worrying about how cool you look. When you get maybe late 40's, you look at some of the "cool" people and think what a fuckin nit wit.

Looking cool, oh shit, I spit beer on the key board. You go for it.

I sure love my DCLB. Almost every weekend 8 months of the year we haul 4 people and a bed full of boat watersport and/or fishing gear 2 hours each way to the lake. Several lake trips with 5 guys - smallest about 5’10” 175lb, most 6’ and taller. I fully recognize that an access cab suits many people. I personally can’t understand how many people on TW complain about the DC backseat being too small, those people should probably consider a minivan

i didn't want a truck with a cab bigger than the bed. I don't have kids and I don't want to give more than one person a ride anywhere. I don't tow anything currently but if I do in the future, it would only be a small trailer. I use the backseat as storage only so the access cab is ideal for me. I don't care about looking cool but if I did, I would choose the access cab. Money isn't part of the equation.

tldr; i love my access cab and don't want a double cab. The utility package is awesome as well. I am a utilitarian I guess.

Lol! Think DC owners are just envious of AC owner’s carefree lifestyle. :D
That makes very little sense, why would any married middle aged person with kids buy an AC? It is more for singles or couples without a bunch of snot nosed financial burdens. If anything AC owners are living their best life. LOL!

I understand but here what I like:

5' bed truck (Tacoma or other) for off road, this can be used camping if you have tent on roof of cab or topper. (Some use bed rack)
6' bed truck (Tacoma or other) for camping, carry something such as furniture
8' bed truck (Dodge or other who has 8') for work uses such as carry plywood, drywall, etc.

Truck with V8 or Diesel engine for heavy load or tow heavy trailer/RV.

The 8 ft bed full size truck is also great for camping, allows you to sleep in the bed with lots of room. I camped all around the US and canada sleeping in the bed with a high rise camper shell on an F150.

Yeah I know I have seen them but not for off road because it's too long in tight turns. Camping is no problem as long as you aren't going to muddy/rocky off roading.

Edit: 8ft bed is hard for parking lots at the stores unless you park it far away from the store. Dually truck is hard for ATM drive through.

I wanted a Tundra RC 8’ bed, unfortunately they quit making them. Seemed like the perfect configuration for my needs, about the same amount of room in the cab as an AC Tacoma for tossing my MX gear bag in to keep it locked in the cab at trailheads, plus the bed is long enough to fit a dirt bike with the tailgate closed, and decent towing capacity for a small travel trailer.

Looked for a slightly used one, darn near impossible to find.

When it comes to looks the AC is the best. Even once lifted with many mods it still looks the best but DC's do start looking good with bigger ties and suspension. I use my DCLB for wheeling, hauling stuff, carrying passengers, camping and a lot more. I think stock DCSB are ugly and lame. Stock DCLB also ugly but at least the bed is more useful. For those that actually use the size of the 6ft bed is is definitely an advantage over the SB. My ideal taco would be an AC but mostly used for off road wheeling.

Mine was an ‘87 F150 regular cab, so not as long as you think, don’t remember exact dimensions but don’t think it was much longer than my Tacoma Access cab. It was wider of course.

If we all bought what's "popular" we'd all drive Corollas. I'd say be your own person.

I belive the current F-150 regular cab 8' bed has a 141" wheel base, the super crew 4dr with a short bed has a wheel base of 145". Not sure what the overall length of either truck is.

Yeah it is! I am generally by myself 98% of the time, however wanted new and settled on an AC and topper coupled with a 5X8 moto trailer.

If I found a RCLB Tundra was going to have OVRLND Campers build me one tall enough to fit a dirt bike in. Be a great somewhat compact rig (compared to some of my buddies monstrosity of setups) as I don’t like a lot of bullshit to go on my moto/camp trips.

Nice! My first truck was a 1973 C20 with an 8 foot bed. Now that was a 'real' truck!

It would be so long if you have DC with 8'ft bed. If I have DC Tacoma with 6'ft bed, then it won't fit in either my garage or my brother's. My DCSB is tight fit in my brother's garage which is about a foot longer than my brother's 4runner. My back bumper is about 1 inch from the garage door at his house. My truck won't fit in this garage here because of plumbing and drain behind the box. My truck sits outside.
