I was in the same boat before I bought mine - ended up going OEM since the dealership had them in stock and also for this reason:

If you're going for JUST looks, get the eBay version.

If you're actually going to use it every now and then, get the OEM version.

Although the eBay knockoff will probably work for a functional roof rack, I still wouldn't trust it in the long run. There's a reason it's a lot cheaper than the OEM one and that probably has to do with cheaper materials in the product so it wouldn't be as reliable as the OEM roof rack.

If you’re going to be using it a lot, I’d get the OEM. That way you know it’s a Toyota part and that it conforms to their standards. An aftermarket would be fine for looks, but I’d go OEM for actual use.

I just ordered the aftermarket from eBay. I'm mainly after the looks and at this point I can't think of anything I'd use it for. But that might change after I get it. It's totally bolt and play so I can always replace it if the need arises.

I have no personal experience but I've seen several threads where the eBay knockoffs have bolt holes that don't align, and other such things that prevent an easy install. Often they are QA rejects or made from retired molds so the tolerances are off.

    I’m
im interested in which one you choose and the fitment. I’ve been putting it off for a
While because I can’t imagine spending $300 when I can get aftermarket for 100

eBay loves the buyer, if it doesn't work ask for a refund and you'll get one.

How about an update? I've been looking at these myself, but there seems to be little info. When I searched, I was expecting the same debate as the great TRD Pro grille debate.

I ordered a set on Ebay. Mine are great. used them all summer with heavy loads of lumber drywall and hauling my canoe.. The only rub is the cross members are too far apart for my cargo carrier but I would have the dame issue with OEM. IMO I believe they are made at the same factory and OEM goes out the front door and these go out the back.

How so? Cheap because they under cut your business or cheap because you actually have seen them?

Aftermarket hardware sucks. Rusted in about 6 months.

Not worth the money savings. I gave my 1yr rack away and replaced with Prinsu.

The bolts I sealed with silicone held up ok, but everything looked 10yrs old. Recommend sourcing stainless hw.
