Sounds like TW needs to contact the Mythbuster team to solve the mystery of bug deflector effectiveness. I'm sure they would have a field day.

If I really thought the deflector would keep the edge of the hood from pitting, I'd put one on.

I agree about Rain-X bug washer fluid. That's all I use. The wiper blades last a long time and the glass stays cleaner then any fluid I've used over the years.

    With respect to the stealership...

I took mine off, seemed a little useless with my ARB bumper on... I've got to say that I like it better without. If you want mine, PM me.

They have no embedded chips so yes, air deflectors are stupid...so stupid they don't even realize they are stupid. It was on there when I got the truck. I leave it there to piss off all the superiority complex people who don't have one. Today's "cool" kids are a bunch of twilight freaks so who cares what they think and they are so stupid they don't even realize they are stupid. It adds some more black trim to the front of the truck. I think it stopped a chip once but not sure. I think the possibility of it messing with the paint on the hood is much less of something to worry about than the shitty seals everywhere, folding tailgate, motor mount brackets failing, annoying clutch noise, crappy 3 leaf pack, leaking cabin air entry, etc etc etc. Yeah, don't chip your hood paint, it'll slow down the frame rust. Whatever, it stays.....unless someone makes a bra for it, lol............

It also matches the vent guards on the windows so it cannot be removed...................:p

Had a 97 Taco for 7 years w/ out one and the edge of the hood took a beating....little rock chips by the hundreds. Betta than the Toyota bug deflectors tho w/ the metal on paint clips! That thing don't make no dang sence at all...and it sits above the hood anyway.

I could not agree more, clear paint protection is the only way to go. No chips, no dings, no errors!:D I had the front of my Taco done when I bought it, no regrets. Its the best paint protection you can get IMHO. Even the headlights are covered with the 3m film. For what its worth.

Rain X = the bomb! Been using it for years.

Hood protectors = protect the leading edge of the hood from flying rocks and does shit to deflect bugs. I have one. It looks like shit but does its job.

Way back when I tried using rain-x it was great......when I had removed the wipers from the truck (street truck in the 80s) but found I had to replace wiper blades sooner when using it with wipers. The rubber didn't like the rain-x it seemed.
