I'm looking to replace my canopy, due to the lack of sliding cab access window. But as everyone knows new canopies are expensive, and finding a used 2nd gen canopy is seemingly impossible in my area. For me, a perfect fit isn't required, nor is appearance, as long as it doesn't leak.

So what other trucks could I consider sourcing a canopy from? Are there any that might seem good but should be avoided, and why?

A fiberglass one no. Maybe an aluminum one? Just because there are no contoured lines and such. But you'd have to make sure the cab height lines up to your liking. I guess any smaller truck, but probably a newer colorado or ranger as they are most similar in size.

Where are you located? I was living in Portland when I picked mine up. Was on the lookout religiously on Craigslist/ FB/ OfferUp and found one for $400 after about 3 months of searching. If you're patient enough something will come up.

I have had a hard enough time trying to be leak free with a made for Leer on my '06. This is not a Leer issue but the way the front of the bed is lower than the side rails and the plastic caps on the rails. There are threads on ways folks have dealt with the issues so look around here on TW. In 40 years of trucks with shells/caps/canopies this is there only one I can't get to 100% leak free. I can't imagine getting a not made for Tacoma shell to not leak. JMO
