Been reading the reviews on Amazon and it seems they all suck. Even the mighty DeWalt. Leaking oil or no oil and bad batteries seem to be the most common complaint's.

Anyone have experience with these and can make a recommendation or should I just stay away from them?

    TIA

I haven't tried the battery operated (cordless) chainsaw but I prefer gas powered chainsaw. Unless you plan to cut thin branches/sticks. If plan to cut thick or big ones, gas powered chainsaw would help a lot.

If you plan to cut trees or whatever far away from home, then make sure to get extra batteries if you prefer to use cordless tools that way you can be cutting most of the day until you ran out of batteries. That's why gas would last long than batteries which you have to swap batteries it may not last long unless you have charger near you but I doubt the charger would run til battery gets full charged. The power in the truck may trip so that means you have to re-enable the power. If you plan to cut near home, then you can place charger outside under the shade.

    So it's up to you.

I have two friends with battery saws, one with an Echo and one with Stihl. They are both happy with them and have had zero issues.

What are you planning to do with it? Prune neglected azaleas or cut down an old oak? I bought a electric pole saw and burned it out in a few hours, giving it 50% down time to cool off. I carry a battery powered reciprocating saw for the trail. It’s good for widening narrow trails of brush.

My friend has a Milwaukee battery saw that i have used a few time.
    Upsides
Super quiet..dont have to wait for it to warm up at all..
    Downsides
Heavier than gas...batteries die and need to carry spares...may forget to put bar oil in since i fill fuel and oil at same time

All chainsaws leak oil. The difference is people buying a cordless one don't have much experience with a chainsaw and don't know what to expect.

The reason I'm looking at cordless saws is gas saws are so damned hard to start. Especially if you let them sit a month or more. Don't really understand why the hell in this day and age they can't make a chainsaw that starts reliably. Wish Honda made chainsaws. :(

My Echo CS 355T starts up every time without issue, even after it sits.

Like others have said: if you need it for anything more than a hand saw can do you should get a "real" chainsaw.

I have a gas saw but the landscapers who did some work for us last year had a small Milwaukee. It looked pretty good so we asked about it and they said they liked it. Short bar, 12". Good for shrubs and small brush. They kept a spare battery on the charger.

Pretty! I'll see your Taco battery saw and raise you a Corvette lumberjack saw.

Same thing to the cars/trucks if they sit too long... then you try to start, it won't start.

If you don't want that happen, you can start gas saw for a few mins every other day (or week) so it should be fine.

I have a smaller Husqvarna that sat for a year and started fine. I'm going to use it this weekend and I'll let you know if It gives me a hard time.

Battery chainsaws I have used (stihl) were all much smaller than any gas saw I ever used (echo, stihl, husqvarna)

    Pro: light weight

Cons: tiny little bar, so only for small jobs, batteries don't last, very little power
