I haven't run ethanol gas in any of my small engines in years. Marine gas is all I've used. in spite of this my 15 year old pressure washer developed carburetor problems last year. It would only run with the choke on. Was going to take it apart and clean it but decided to check the cost of a new one first. Amazon had it for 20 bucks. Ordered one, installed it along with a new fuel filter and spark plug, now she's good as new. My Cub Cadet mower can sit all winter and still fire right up. Ethanol free marine gas is da bomb.

Im confident that they will. That whole lineup is quite the deviation from their insistence that you don’t need high voltage to make more powerful tools. I think they are hitting a wall on what they can do at 18v. Also, the cost they must be eating to make 18v keep up with 60v Dewalt must be insane. The amount of copper they have to use to handle the 3x the current is surely slicing into their profits.

I started with an EGO blower and later got the weed wacker and chainsaw. They all have great power.

He likely wouldn’t know. You need to find an engineer that works in the group that designs chainsaws. There’s probably one on here somewhere.

My Makita uses dual 18v batteries and works great. I'm a big fan of not having to buy specialized batteries and chargers for bigger tools this way. Quiet and powerful. Obviously it doesn't have the run time of a gas saw, but it came with four batteries and has done most of the light clearing and trophy taking that I need it to.

Seems to me that the makers of cordless chainsaws make their money off the batteries and chargers and not the saws. Think I'm going to go with an Echo or Husqvarna gas model.

I would have never in my life thought I’d own a battery powered chain saw, I’ve always has Stihl saws. For my last birthday my wife bought me the M18 Milwaukee chainsaw, I was skeptical, but given the reviews I was optimistic that it would be impressive.
It is incredibly impressive the amount of torque and that it doesn’t bog down.
I’ve had it long enough to cut big and small, my impression is that if it’s anything bigger than 10” and you’re planning on cutting more than 15 to 20 chunks, you’ll be burning through a 12amp hour battery pretty quickly. where I see this saw shining is taking down a single, medium sized oak tree in a hurry, or clearing larger saplings and trimming back 4”-5” branches. If just doing that, this thing is great and lasts about 2 To 2.5 hours with pulling branches out of the way and whatnot.

The saw/battery/charger combo came with the rapid charger which is perfect, it only takes about 30 min to charge the 12 amp hour battery and, in all honesty, is great time to clear up the work area of branches. And if you have some 5amp hour batteries laying around from other tools, that gets you by in the meantime just fine!
It’s not a replacement, but a damn good supplement. I find myself grabbing this thing off the shelf a lot, and the ease of it makes me grab it to trim stuff that I would normally pass by if I had to fire up it’s gas counterpart.

And my final thought on this is one that’s been keeping me up at night. If you drive an electric vehicle, you’re considered a tree hugger... but what does it make of you if you own an electric chainsaw??

I think you summed up the cordless saws perfectly.

@Rottencotton I just used my little Husqvarna on Thursday for the first time since last June. I forgot to prime it and pulled it a few times before I realized that. After I primed it it started on the 3rd pull and ran perfectly.

I only use the Husqvarna pre-mixed fuel so this might have something to do with it. It's a bit more expensive than pump gas, but the convenience is well worth it to me.

I was in Lowe's this morning and checked out the premixed fuel. I thought $20 a gallon was a bit steep for what it is. I have a can full of Marine gas and plenty of oil. The marine gas is $1.76 a gallon and don't remember what I paid for the oil but it wasn't much.

Other than convenience, is there any other advantage to using premix?

It says it's 95 octane with synthetic oil. They claim it can be stored for years. The fuel I used has been in my garage for 2 years, and the saw still ran perfect.

I don't know if you'll get the same results with marine gas. If this thing continues to run so well, I'll keep running the Husqvarna fuel.
