What did A.R.E. do to fix the rear door adhesive problem? I have a Revo from 11/2018 and almost all of the hinges/rams have detached from adhesive failure.
I'm trying to decide if I return the Revo for a Z model (I like the Revo better), or if I take a chance and get the "new" rear door. But my installer doesn't know what A.R.E. changed and if those changes will last over the years. I'd really like some assurance from someone who has the Revo and can see if they think it is stable or will keep coming unglued in the future. Any pictures or thoughts, please and thank you? TG

Idk what they changed but the adhesive hinges look fine to me, I don’t see them ever failing. But even if they did, they have a warranty on them for the entire life of the truck. Send it back in for repair!

Thank you TurboFire. The warranty for the urethane on the side windows and the hinges/props is 1 year, not lifetime. On page 1 of this thread Tacoma T-Rex posted a picture of the problem. In cold weather the urethane fails and separates from the glass. That's why I asked for pictures or someone to look at theirs and see what A.R.E. did to fix the problem.

By the way...you have a sharp looking truck! The off-white or cream is nice. Thanks, TG

It’s got bolts in the adhesive pad. I’m honestly not too worried about it cause the struts are supporting most of the weight when it’s up. I think like the guy with the problems said, the adhesive wasn’t fully cured. Maybe they used a better, stronger holding substance? Even if it falls apart warrantied or not, I’m gonna make them fix it after paying them 3k for it

It took them long enough to fix the hinge issues. I've been waiting for this top to be re-released but I have questions about fitment of the back hatch as pointed out in this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKJ_GsfKBRQ&t=168s

From those of you with the top can you speak to this and the level of seal, gaps, etc? Final concern being that this is a tempered glass hatch and I'm wondering if anyone is concerned with breaking it while opening or closing. Thanks a bunch!

I can not open my Revo like the video you linked to. I think his needs adjusted tighter. The D-rings are adjustable. If someone wants into your car or topper they will get in. I've had both broken into more than once over the years. I don't think the tempered glass is fragile. I believe the props are 40 pounds and will keep the door from slamming shut.
I like my Revo in all ways, color match, fit, no leaks, looks and style. Everything is perfect except... my only concern is the adhesive problem as I posted. I'm trying to decide if I switch to the Z model now or just get the new glass door for the Revo. My rep. wants me to get the new glass door, and if it fails within the next year they will still offer to trade for a Z model. TG

    That’s a sharp looking topper!

Any areas where the topper could rub paint off the bed if the truck? I’ve seen that posted before as a concern with other toppers.

I really like this topper and am glad
    I found this thread.

In retrospect, is there anything you would have done differently?

Fitment was perfect for me. No paint rub, very little to no water leakage after silicone filling the gaps up front near the cab. I have been 100% satisfied with this product. The rear window is not fragile nor flimsy at all if properly adjusted on there, I was even instructed by installers to come back a month later for readjustment once the gasket forms in.

Only thing I would have done different is ordered a compression boot so I can just keep the power sliding window open at all times. Gonna have them do that as well as completely remove the front sliding window on the cap because I just don’t see the point in ever having those windows closed. Visibility is much easier without looking through 3 tinted pieces of glass haha

    Hey everyone,

I just got a CX Evolve installed on my Toyota Tacoma. Two quick questions. Is the cap suppose to sit more flush to the truck than pictured here? There is a little overhang on mine. Also, the back glass has about an inch gap off the back when it closes. Worried about potential leaking, and at first glance not sure how well it will hold up to weather. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. This is my first cap and just not 100% on other's experiences with their installs.

    Thank you!

Fitment looks good to me. That back glass normally overhangs a bit, shouldn’t be an inch though. It’s also supposed to be readjusted by your installer after 3-4 weeks. Get them to tighten more then

TAbbott posted a link to a video (a few post back) where the back glass door was loose enough to put your hand in and open it. Mine is tight enough that I can't put my hand in. This gives you a guide if yours is set too far off. TG

Thanks for the replies TurboFire and eyespy!

I can in fact open up the back glass window when it's locked. Like the video, all I have to do is apply pressure to the glass and reach for the latch to unlock it. If I go back to my installer, is there anything I can specifically ask them to tighten to avoid this? I may give them a call and see if anything else can be done. After spending 2K on this cap, I'm already disappointed. Not sure if it's my installer, the overall design of the cap, or a combination of both.

So, first off I am in this forum for the discussion on the topper. I have a Chevy (don't hit me)! Maybe the tailgate of the Chevy is a different shape from the Tacoma. I measured my topper window and the gap is 9/16 inch between the tailgate and the INSIDE of the glass. If I really try I can force my fingers between the glass and the tailgate, but I can't open the topper door. Maybe the installer can adjust the glass door, or maybe they need to move the entire topper forward 1/2 inch-ish.
I see that my installer logo is in the picture so I want to add the disclaimer that I do not work for them, I am not associated with them in any way. This is the 1st ARE topper I've ever bought and I have no obligation to ARE.IMG_1532.jpg

I should add, if someone really wants to break into your topper they will get in. I've had it happen twice where the window was broken. With my old truck I seldom locked the topper after having to replace broken glass twice. If someone wants to look in at least they won't break the glass. I have almost the same attitude with my cars, after also having windows broken twice. Go ahead and steal the loose change for drug money, but don't damage my vehicle! My new topper now locks when the truck locks.

I took delivery of the topper today. I'll post pictures but the bottom of the back glass sticks out from the tailgate. I can see light through the bottom seal and the glass is anything but flush. It's not even close to flush. I asked for an adjustment but they didn't know how and are reaching out to ARE. Does anybody have experience with this? If the dealer doesn't know how to fix it ( I dont think they will) I'm thinking about how to remedy it myself. It's so frustrating that you cant even contact the manufacturer. Oh, and the front window aluminum overtightened bolts problem is still a problem.

Eww that gap is gross! My rear window only sits 1/8” from the tailgate if that..just enough gap so it doesn’t hit when closing it. You can try moving the adjustable latches on both sides in. If it doesn’t catch after that, you’ll have to find a way to push the gasket in more

Let your installer do it. You don't want to void any warranty. The installer should never have let that out of their shop in my opinion. I'd be embarrassed. TG
