I'm on vaca in Maui and the truck of choice here is the Toyota Tacoma. They outnumber everyone else 100:1.

I was behind an 2016 OR a little while ago and noticed the backend seemed to bounce quite a bit from some of the dips in the road. Is this the norm for the stock setup? I thought I remembered those type of comments from owners over the months since release.

I have a 2013 SR5 DC 2wd. When I move to the 3rd gen, I would like a similar ride which I think is quite good on my 2013. It is stock.

As I understand it, the Sport is stiffer and should handle those bumps better but seems a little harsh for some peoples liking.

Are the SR5's and Limited's the best choice for a stock pavement queen?

I might end up going with a 4x4 on my next purchase. I'm ready to do some road trips into Yosemite and other amazing parks so I think flexibility might be more important on the next purchase. Obviously a good ride is important for 1000 mile trips.

My 2016 limited seems to have the same Hitachi setup as the TRD sport suspension and it is pretty firm. The TRD off-road suspension is better on dirt roads and over bumps, but I got motion sickness driving around in the off-road model since the truck already has a high center of gravity. If you don't get car sick at all the off-road suspension is probably the most comfortable, but I needed the firm suspension personally even if it is a bit rough over bumps. I changed out the 18in wheels for 17in on my limited which improved the ride over bumps.

That was my biggest disappointment with my TRD OR. The suspension sucked. Very bouncy. Thank God for after market.

I prefer the TRD OR suspension. It is not bouncy to me, cush and soft. The TRD sport bounced me all over the road on a test drive.

This was one of the things I was paying particular attention to on my test drive. Imo it's not bouncy at all relatively speaking. Soaks up the bumps like a champ but stabilizes quick. Even did better in the turns than I was expecting but it certainly dipped. This coming from someone who has been DDing a track car on kw coilovers for 3 years.

Bouncy sure. You could explain it like that. Smooth or soft sounds better to me. I like it. Nothing you hit hard jars you or the truck. And it's the off road version. The suspension is tuned to favor off roading.

So you know those "traffic calming" speed-bumps in certain neighbourhoods? Well the way those are engineered is you should be able to comfortably go over them at the exact posted speed limit (usually 25mph).
My '13 sr5 4x4 could not hit those at more than 15mph without feeling like I was bottoming out and bouncing for 40 feet after.
My '16 OR 4x4 I can hit those babies at the exact posted speed (or faster....shhhhhhh) and it just sucks up the bump and instantly stabilises no problem. Waaaay better damping.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I bomb down the gravel roads in my area pretty regular and the TRD OR soaks it up nicely no bounce.

No bounce here. I preferred it over the sport
..nice and cush. I've seen other 16s look like the bed has quite a bit of movement, and imagine mine looks the same, but it doesn't transfer into the cabin.

It's also important to note that the truck could have the tow package with the added leaf, which would make the rear end chattery.

Quick tip. I own a Sport. One time SOMEONE *cough Toyota cough* inflated my tires to 38-40psi and my God I was drifting on the freeway 3-4 inches every time I encountered a good curve and slabs of cement that where not even.

When you test drive the vehicles, make sure you test drive then at around 30psi. Door jam says 29psi. 5psi difference gives you a whole lot of handling and comfortable change.

I also noticed how well it felt over speed bumps., especially how little bump/bounce it has when the rear end goes over the speed bump.

My Off Road is not bouncy at all. Feels quite composed to be honest.
