Beautiful truck, I grew up behind a 91 prostar 190, you cant beat that wake for skiing, but I guess I'm a little biased.

I would like to say that if you're interested in a 1st gen, the 3.4l 5VZFE V6 is an extremely reliable engine that can tank 500,000 miles with proper care. The problem came with the 3VZE V6 in the 90-95 toyota pickups, in which toyota made a recall for head gasket issues, in which if you're looking at those you would want the 4 cyl 22re. As if 1st gens are worth the investment, YES. I would take my 97 tacomas looks over any other model of toyota tacoma. Even 89-94 toyota pickups are a surprisingly high price on craigslist. Highly sought after truck and they are only obtaining more miles. I live in Washington State, bought mine with 160,000 for $9,000. expensive? Maybe, but I'd do it again...

Looks like you live in a big truck neighborhood? Or just happen to have two full size in the picture.

Mandatory, "yes, they're worth their weight in gold" simply because I want to say someday that I made a profit off buying and selling a 1999 Tacoma after adding 50-100k miles to it.

As someone who previously posted it how much I enjoyed the first GEN I am also very aware that family situations change things… As somebody who just sold their first GEN and picked up a third GEN The extra space some fancy upgrades and Toyota care sure is a peace of mind and timesaver because I just didn’t have the time to fix little parts going out here in there anymore after adding kids to each their own! I’ve now owned practically every model and combination of Tacoma and can just happily say who cares it’s a Tacoma we are all on the same team :)

drove 2nd gen single cab today, an AT :annoyed:

i felt like i was SO HIGH off the road and could not see over the hood and check for potholes to avoid
my old 1st gen i am like right on top of the situation each and every time to see the road in front of me
it would take much getting used to driving such a bigger single cab with 4cyl

crazy because literally today I told my wife how I love sitting so high up- I guess I look further down the road so I have an idea when the potholes disappear behind the hood / approach the tires- but I’m tall and like the height

    OME and worth every penny.
All old trucks are commanding a larger price now. That's what happens when new ones are 50K whether we think the old ones are worth it or not.

We are seeing ordinary problems now on the board for 20 yr. old vehicles. Paint failing, emissions system problems. Parts not avail. any longer.

In 2007 it was really just "How big of.....?"

I was looking at the 2020 Tacoma and the salesman said there is a camera up front so when you 4x4
going up a steep hill you can see where your going because of the hood being so high:)

It’s not the height of the truck it’s the dam hood is so tall And long

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that this is the first time since 1985 that I have not owned a Toyota truck. I bought my most recent Tacoma in December 2001 for $15,000. Tonight I sold that Tacoma for $12,000. I do not know if I will ever get another 1st gen, but I will enjoy my other 3 Toyotas, and likely add a double cab to the herd. The next one will at least have a 6 cylinder, air condtioning, cruise control, and a rear locker.

Toyota truck bring a premium when you BUY them and when you SELL them. But keep a vigilant eye on CL and deals can be found. I mean buying for $15k and selling almost 20 years later for $12k...you start to see the used price premium as insurance for when it comes time to sell :0
