Are Gen 3 Tacomas as unreliable as Tacomaworld makes them seem?

Not trying to be a dick here, this is not directed at you. Its to everybody that says 3rd gen has too many electronics. Not the first time im hearing this.

2nd gen had vvt as well. CC is a simple design, using abs sensors. My truck doesnt have power seats, just heated. Tech package includes wireless charger and blind spot monitoring i believe. So, all pretty basic things. TSS is probably the weirdest thing, but it never gave me issues yet. Im sure those sensors are not cheap.

If people think these have too many, what do they say about the full size trucks with more sensors, more cameras, more doodads and a much larger infotainment screen that controls everything?

That is the trick I think. A lot of people buy the Tacoma for what it is not. At the end of the day, it is a jack of all trades, master of none. It is outclassed by a lot of vehicles in specific categories (Jeep for offroad, SUVs for cab space, full size for payload and towing, etc). It is also outclassed by its peers in various categories (maybe not across the board on each model) that entered the next gen mid size truck market after it from a checkbox perspective. But, with so much carry over of old parts and design, it gets a boost as a known commodity. To me the other mid-size trucks have some serious question marks over their head that Toyota already has answers for/answered. Plus, at the end of the day most modern vehicles are going to see 100,000+ mile performance. So the question is looks and the Tacoma wins that one.

Yea i wasn't really saying it was an issue. Just that it had the potential too. I would probably have 3rd gen if my budget allowed haha. 2nd gen is paid off and got a 15 corolla as my daily lol. Wanted a 3rd gen but settled for the corolla cause i didnt want the $500 dollar payments haha

Went to the auto show this past January and did just that, along with most of the others. It's incredible how much crap there is nowadays. Bring back buttons and dials.

I may be in the minority here, but out of most vehicles I've been in, the layout of the Tacoma makes sense. Things aren't in dumb places, buttons are placed well and everything is fairly intuitive.

Here's the thing with online forums. A lot of people come here to complain or to ask questions about issues they have. It's like going to the toyota service dept and seeing all the cars being worked on and thinking they have a lot of problems. Well no, it's just that is where people go when they do have a problem. Same thing here. It gets blown out of proportion.

Toyota is still the most reliable brand and the Tacoma is still worthy of your money.

The stupidest thing is the transnission has buttons, no more lever. Thats a bit too much there imo.

Wait, you dont even turn on 4x4 when trying to use the hvac control?

I refuse to buy a vehicle with buttons for the transmission. That's just straight stupidity.
Nope! I know, it's incredible. I started teaching classes via video chat every Tuesday

TW is like going to the Toyota service dept. and having teams of people telling you what a piece of crap your truck is while you are waiting.

End of the day, we all make choices in life.

    Some times we make mistakes.

It’s how you deal with those mistakes that separates the men from the boys, literally.

So this might sound pretty dumb, and I'm not complaining about anything...but every time I go to turn on the 4x4...i try to turn it the wrong way. I have no idea why, maybe it's the way the knob looks? Or maybe my previous 4x4s turned the opposite way the tacomas does and I'm just stuck in my ways? I'm not sure

I'm gonna be honest here and tell you I almost never use cruise on my truck because it does weird things. I do find on long drives S5 and cruise work much better, I.E. normal, but any drive mode or S5 or S6 will make the truck drive much better. Cruise is shitty on my wifes Rav, so maybe it is a Toyota thing. I never had a problem with my FJ though, but it was an MT.

I have had my truck 3 years and still try to push the 4x4 switch to start my truck... No idea why, I guess my arm likes that spot.

I will have to agree with you on this one. You have to push it in first, then turn. I really have to pay attention when engaging the 4x4.

My ranger had huge black switch, you could do it in the dark.

Still, my taco is 100 times better in every way, except for not having steel bumpers:)

Imo, there are too many useless electronics for the basic owner...it was one of the questions asked in the latest toyota survey i received.
