Nice link, hadn't seen that one before. Daniel Stern has one on his website as well.

Ambient light in cities mitigates the glare substantially. Try it driving through a canyon in the middle of nowhere, when you come around a corner and blind another driver for several seconds.

i have HID in stock housing and have tried 2 housings OEM and Aftermarket. I have to say they do scatter light all over, i have had to aim them so far down to avoid blinding people and getting flashed that its really not even worth having them. the only safe and worth while way to have HID's for ON ROAD use is to do a retrofit.

exactly, ambient light down plays the glaring significantly but on a dark road they make you truck seem like an airplane is landing in the lane next to you lol.

my retro fit was done proper. i have had more than a few high dollar and lesser cost retrofits on my truck in the last year i can say that nothing compares to bjorns work over at customlightz.com the dude is a genius with hid's.

he modded my projectors to perfection they are aligned perfectly and well you need to take a ride with me is all i can really say you have to see it to believe it i guess.

what!!! the phillips bulbs most certainly will not color shift with a 35 watt ballast. they are the highest quality bulbs money can buy and the standard by which all other bulbs are measured.

are you familiar with what the term color shift means?

when you run a higher wattage through some lesser quality bulbs the color temp will change meaning you 4300k will look as if it is a 5 or 6k color that is what will be represented on the road ahead of you.

search it out here is a link from the top echelon of hid retrofitters in the world clearcorners.com read there fact section. http://www.clearcorners.com/tech/

btw most if not all sellers of phillips bulbs are or have been either used are knock offs or they have been rebased just an fyi. if i was wanting to buy a set of phillips 85122+ bulbs i would either go to a dealership or trs period. same thing goes for the high dollar and hard to find osrams.

lol i figured that. i personally like 4300 and 5k nothing anything higher is stupid imo becuase you loose light. 6k is noticeable to the human eye. the difference between 43 and 5 k is not i prefer the pure whit light of the 5k.

i was wanting to pick up a set of those osrams trs had but they where like 240$ a pair or some shit!

Then they should have their headlights properly aimed. I don't care if the bulb has a shield or not, it's downright rude to run an HID setup in a reflector housing designed for a halogen bulb.

The "illegal" classification is questionable. It is true the HID-upgraded reflector will not meet the FMVSS regs applicable to the vehicle at the time of vehicle manufacture. However, the same can be said of the fog light anytime mod, or an off-road bumper (since you are invalidating original crash test results). In states that do safety inspections, has anyone here failed a safety inspection due to an HID kit installed?

Thats why i love my 96. i can adjust my headlights before and after i got my hids. all i had to do was adjust the mounting screw on the top to angle them down. But i did go with the clear projector lens and the 10k

10,000 kelvin? they must be bright.

you realize that you are losing almost half of the light produced by a 4,300 or 5,000 kelvin
    right?

also the 2nd gen has adjustment screws as well for 2 dimensions of adjustment both height and inner and outer adjustment. 10 to 12k bulbs are purple or very close to it i bet it looks cool though:rolleyes:

    Build thread in sig...
yearly safety inspections in virginia. i only spend 4 months out of the year in VA now, but 20 minutes from washington dc, and i've never run into any problems with police officers or the inspections.

i do however, have to put covers on my off road lights, and disable the foglight anytime mod to pass the inspection, but that's all.

I get flashed all the time and have even been involved in a road rage incident where the driver in front of me got out of his vehicle and threatened me. He would eventually run his truck into mine further down the road...on purpose...because of my 55w 6000!!!!!
