Are manual trannys old school, out of style/function?

Auto might be better for the 1/4 where next to no skill is needed. A real race track has turns, left and right, and for that I will choose manual.

I had both. I preferred the Automatic with the paddles. Plus on the Vette one has to change out the clutch fluid a LOT. Otherwise the pedal goes down and stays there. Even the MX5 is a paddle shifter Auto. My bike is enough clutching for me...

I learned how to drive on a manual and will probably have at least one manual car in the family when I "grow up"; I'm 25.

I hate driving an auto. I always have to pay attention to whether I am in park, drive, reverse, or neutral. I always fear putting the car into reverse when I want to go forward (I did that once and hit a pole). Don't really care if an auto is faster these days. I prefer the old school manuals. Clutch + brake + gas = total control.

3 pedals are better than 2. This is elementary math people. No wonder so many can't figure out how to shift and settle for an auto.

After 25 years of manuals, I finally went back to an auto. Originally had my mind set on Access Cab Offroad Manual. Couldn't find one anywhere and was told they may not even make one. So I committed to a DCLBOR auto. It's a Taco so I enjoy it either way.... was in a stock Xterra manual 6-sp. for last 8 yrs. Definitely miss the manual. I had mistakenly tried to step on the clutch that isn't there a few times but I'm getting use to it rather quickly. The new 6-sp auto is pretty smooth and shifts fast. But still miss that machine-operator feeling of driving a manual.

The hand and feet coordination of shifting, steering, plus the instantaneous response of the mechanical connection. Listening to the revs, feeling the vibration through the pedal, working the gears, rev matching, climbing and descending long windy mountain roads is pure joy - and this is from a PU and SUV driver. I'm haven't even driven a sports cars in 20 years.

Dclb is same size as a tundra double cab. Would have went with that option personally. Since it's still a truck, unlike the new Tacoma

2lo is awesome in traffic. Just push the shifter towards first but don't go into gear and truck moves. No clutch, no gas, just accelerate with your hand

Manual transmission was a HUGE reason why i purchased a tacoma. Just not that many stick shift 4x4s out there. Basically tacoma or wrangler...thats it right? Maybe a frontier? I hunted for a manual regular cab cause i know they are a dying breed, and when i found a good one, i jumped on it immediately!

Either way the 5 speed is really fun to drive. I feel safer and more in control and more connected to the experience of driving. With Autos, i find that i speed more without even noticing that im speeding. And i space out easier. With a manual, i always feel focused and engaged. And im 28 years old. Lots of my friends cant even drive my truck.

Don't need a large truck. Just a single guy with a few pieces of wilderness gear. A pickup without a bed long enough to sleep in is useless to me. The Taco DCLB is plenty enough truck for my needs

Correct. I think the 3rd gen auto has a double lockup clutch.

This happens to be from wikipedia but to my knowledge it's 100% correct.

    Lock-up torque converters
As described above, impelling losses within the torque converter reduce efficiency and generate waste heat. In modern automotive applications, this problem is commonly avoided by use of a lock-up clutch that physically links the impeller and turbine, effectively changing the converter into a purely mechanical coupling. The result is no slippage, and virtually no power loss.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque_converter#Lock-up_torque_converters

The "virtually" no power loss - I believe is due to the fluid, not from any slippage as the article states that there is no slippage.
