    The utility world and the bushcraft world are different. With just an axe you can fell a tree and buck it there, prepare food, use it as a weapon or for digging etc. A bow saw is an amazing tool, but it’s not on the short list.

    An axe, given enough time, can cut down a tree or cut through a log of any size. A bow saw is limited by its design/size. Also an axe will soldier on long after the bow saw is dull as shit.

    If your life depended on passing a fallen tree, you’d have to bet on the axe.

    However, yes in most cases the saw is fine.

    I've helped several passenger cars get unstuck from sand and snow. On some cars I just can't figure out where to safely attach a strap so 10 minutes of digging and some trax and they are on their way. I just went with the knock off X-Bulls. Still have all the nubs intact. I'm up to 4 cars and one self recovery in 18 months of ownership. Would buy again.

    Yeah, nobody is doing all that in a Tacoma.

    If your life was in such danger that you needed to use an axe to chop through a tree that a bow saw, or even a chainsaw, couldn't handle, you're fucked my friend.

    I guess I shouldn't have limited my alternative to a bow saw. I remain unconvinced as to the actual necessity of the axe over literally any saw alternative when it comes to trees in the vast majority of situations.
    Anyway, that's off topic.
