I just ordered a pair of Morimoto XB side mirror sequential turn signals and am wondering if they’re worth the price.

I had originally ordered a pair from Amazon for dirt cheap (compared to the price of Morimoto) but the electrical clip didn’t fully seat and a “nipple” within the interior plastic trim didn’t pop into place which is a big no-no for me.

If anyone has any experience with this particular product, I’d like to hear from you.

    Thanks in advance.

Meh, they're okay. Mostly reliable I'd say.

Reliability is a big thing for me (the reason I own a Toyota) so this helps a lot. Thanks.

If you buy a "dirt cheap" electrical product you are probably getting just what you pay for in the fit, function and quality of the components and perhaps more importantly the quality of the engineering behind the product.

These trucks have very sensitive electrical systems judging from the problems that folks post.
You don't want a cheap accessory messing up your $40k truck.
Good argument for "buy once, cry once".

Yeah, I totally get this notion and is the reason I did purchase the Morimoto version to try out. I’m just a bit impatient and curious to read others’ experiences.

I’m most curious about if the price difference ($45.00 on Amazon vs. $150.00 for the Morimoto) is justified as far as fit and finish goes.

Electrical stuff can shaft you hard.
It is easy to make a knockoff product look like the real deal. The real cost with electrical items is the quality of the components and the engineering inside.

An old example but a good one: Old GM cars used a solenoid shift starter, the original Delco solenoid used many turns of fine wire to make the electromagnet. Replacements used fewer turns of heavier wire. The replacements looked fine -- and worked for a while -- but not very long.

Morimoto products are becoming more expensive and I don't know the exact reason why. I do recall Morimoto saying something about a price gouging on most of their products a few months ago, maybe because of supply chain issues or they're too confident lol. I've had zero issues with my headlights and they're the highest quality and most reliable set of headlights I've ever owned. In fact, Morimoto sent me two sets of Morimoto XB LED Headlights instead of one set, but I decided to return the other set because I didn't want them to notice and charge me another $1.4k.

Thanks a ton for your input @brandon78lusch

So far (from the limited consensus), it seems I’ve placed my egg$ in the right basket.

I do plan on doing a quick review of this particular piece in this thread and hopefully everything will fit correctly with the stock bits (I’ll take pics of the specific points of interest: connector and nipple).

Please stay tuned if you are interested.

My truck came with the OEM LED Headights so that’s off the table but I’m also mildly interested in the XB Tails.

If this install goes well, that may be next on my list.

Aside from general inflation and supply chain issues, likely has something to do with DLG/TRS (owners of Morimoto) were acquired by Wheel Pros, and step one in an acquisition like this is to raise prices to increase profit. I haven't tracked prices to verify the accuracy of your statement, but I will say their new products like the 4banger definitely seem priced higher than typical Morimoto products.

I bought smoked led sequential turn signals on Amazon and they were easy to install and work just fine. I suppose it depends on which vendor you get them from? Idk

I also have Morimoto xb gen 2 led headlights and I love them. Pairs well with my sequential Amazon turn signals and meso custom stage 1 led tails

All the stock components fit fine? I had trouble in a couple areas.

Side mirror covers came off fine, removed the original turn signals and slide the sequential LEDs in with no real issues. It was tedious but I took my time as to not break any of the brackets or the connecting pin

Morimoto does not give operating temp ranges for their products. So, if you live in a place that sees cold (like below negative 5 F) I would avoid them (as well as VLED). Not saying you will have a problem, but you could.

I was also carful with all the clips and nothing broke.

The electrical clip on the pair I got from Amazon didn’t “click” in correctly and would have had to use electrical tape to keep the male and female parts connected.

I stated this in the original post but there is also an inner “nipple” that goes into a circular hole which also did not “click” into like the factory pieces.

Live in Minnesota, have had my Morimoto's headlights for over a year now (2nd winter with them) and no issues during cold temps.

For larger, more complicated lighting and electrical components I would never trust the "budget" version. For something as simple as bed lights or a sequential turn signal? Meh, I'd rather spend that extra $100+ somewhere else...but that's just me.

Sounds like you got a bad set if the clips didn't easily click in. I've had an inexpensive set on my mirrors for nearly a year now. They snapped in easily and function perfectly.

Ok, so I received the Morimoto LED Sequential side mirror blinkers and they are definitely worth the price tag so far, just going by fit and finish/light output.

Stock light output was a joke. (We all know this.) The Morimotos are about 75% more visible in all angles.

Also of note: I like to have a small portion of the light from the side mirror blinkers visible from the driver’s seat. The Morimotos do this well. The Amazon version was barely visible.

The shape of the lenses are pretty much exactly like stock. The Amazon ones were bulbous in the portions that face the wind.

The connectors fit perfectly and “clicked” in. (So satisfying.)

The “nipple” piece correctly fit into the hole on the Morimoto tab.

So far, the saying, “you get what you pay for” holds true. I’ll have some pics in the morning when there’s more light.
