Are my odds of getting a 22/23 Lunar Rock TRD Off Road Premium as bad as it seems?

Yup I remember this all too well. I live close to the border to another state and they had an allocated TRDOR with the exact configuration I was looking for that no one had claimed yet. Once they found out I was out of state they immediately told me they couldn't sell it to me as I was outside there service zone. Found myself back to square one until I found one a few months later sitting on different dealers lot.

I got "on the list" back on July 10th. I wanted a Lunar Rock double cab with the long bed, predator steps and the typical floor mats / door sill protectors. I told her basically no second choices. Oct. 1st she sent me a build sheet of one with the exception of the steps, they were the oval ones and it had bed lights. I said I'll take it. Built last Saturday 5 Nov and will be on it's way to the east coast shortly. So it took 3 months to find a nearly exact match of an order coming to the plant. The truck was $500 more total ($280 more in options) and a newer year model!

Search dealer websites in your state, you want to find a high volume dealer that gets a lot of allocations. Local dealers pretty much told me "good luck" so I started looking further and further out. Finally I found a dealer that had 28 Tacoma's on their website so I called them. 5 months later they delivered the exact Tacoma I wanted.

Good luck and don't give up. I figured people were getting these damn trucks somehow, so I had to figure out how!

Just got the truck you’re searching for sitting on the lot unspoken for. Region will depend on popularity.

AZ dealership I had a deposit with was predicting an 8 month wait and I had to give my top 3 color choices. I know what that means. A truck with the color and all of the options I wanted showed up in PA of all places. Soonest a car transport company could fit me in was 3 weeks. Pass.

4 day road trip back was grueling and I got a couple of rock ships but those are going to happen sooner or later anyway. Touch up paint does wonders. Not sure if the redesigned truck will have a manual transmission option so I pulled the trigger. If it does, I could always trade in Smurf (it's blue) once they have all the bugs worked out.

    Well Done!

I was going to say; cast a wide net and do the leg-work. You are more likely to find it that way.

I also found mine in Oregon!

The wait was the worst part!

    Enjoy!
