    Hey TW,

I shot this vid of me shaking my struck, as it feels like the shocks are toast to me. The PO claims the shocks have 15k on them, but they just don't feel like new shocks. There's no oil on the shock bodies whatsoever and he provided a receipt for them from a year ago. I was going to go to 5100s soon anyways, but I was hoping to get the opinion of TW on my current Bilstein HDs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlrf7vGraAM

I hope someone takes 0:14 to 0:25 and sets some booty shaking music to it. :)

Either that or takes 0:29 to 0:35 and sets it to some classic 70s p0rn music

And I don't have much insight into it other than I could probably shake my truck much the same way with relatively new OME nitrosport shocks on it. :notsure:

@Madjik_Man That would be too good. Some bump and grind disco.

Well, maybe they aren't bad after all :notsure:

Hopefully the Toytec 5100 kit will give me a little stiffer ride, these things aren't very HD (heavy duty).

I'm sorry... I can't help but bust out laughing thinking of naughty things combined with your movements and facial expressions.

This is easily my favorite thread in a long time.

They look toast to me. A good shock will bounce up and stop. When you gave it one good push down it bounced up and down a few times. Rears definitely worse though

The sheer amount that the truck moves when a vehicle drives by makes me think they might be shot. Could anybody with a similar (stock) shock setup shoot a comparison video for me?

Before I swapped out suspensions my original stock one had 180,000 miles on it. Shocks included. It bounced similarly to yours.

I wouldn't put much thought or concern into it since you are getting 5100s soon.

I wouldn't be putting any thought into it at all, that is, if the guy I bought the truck from hadn't advertised that it had "New Shocks".

I flew several hours to get the truck, and the rest of it felt okay (except for a vibration which I have since fixed). I wasn't 100% sure the shocks were messed up on our little 15 mile test ride, but my suspicions grew as I drove it the remaining 700 miles home.

The PO seems to be a decent guy and sent me an invoice from 15 months ago for the shocks. If he is legit and the shocks went bad, hopefully Bilstein will be able to help me out. If he's BSing me (more likely), I plan to try to get a few hundred bucks out of him.

With that much movement, I think your leafs are shot. New shocks wont fix that.
Also I seriously doubt you'll get money out of the previous owner. He gave you a receipt, even if he didn't, you still bought it.

When buying used vehicle especially one that old, caveat emptor.

Enjoy your truck, replace that decade old suspension and ride on.

@TrdSurgie Any reason in particular you suspect the leafs? The ride height/leaf curve seems to be okay. What are the symptoms of a bad leaf if it's not sagging?

I really wish i took a video of me almost bouncing the front of my truck doing that. struts were 100% leaked out (literally no resistance to move by hand) and sway bar disconnected. Scariest thing ive ever drove on highway.

The amount of movement that you're able to produce with just your body is a lot. I suspect that you could put maybe a few hundred pounds and it would be on the bump stops.
