    I have a ARE Overland.
    Love it!
Mine had zero leaks around the bed rails. Not sure how it could if you use the foam tape you use for installing a truck cap. There was some little amount of water able to leak in the corners of the tailgate, rear door. I pretty much fixed that by adding some weather stripping.
I also weather stripped the tailgate door and siliconed around some open bed areas....nothing to do with the Overland. My truck bed now is pretty much water tight sealed.

ARE MX - Im putting a custom platform in back and wanted more headroom - but now I keep a short rack hoisted up near the inside ceiling as a shelf to store soft stuff (sleeping bags, clothes, etc.), and when I need it, I can mount it on top of the cap temporarily to carry more gear. I use a RTT on the Prinsu when camping sometimes too, but having that extra room below for gear or for sleeping on extra windy or stormy nights with lightning instead of in the RTT makes it nice and safer.

Thanks! I did remove the OEM tube steps and sold them for fear of having some rocks take onenof them off for me, and will be putting on sliders with kickouts soon. Probably wont be doing too much else to it besides the platform. Still in design mode and contemplating making it with a CNC wood mill. Results pending...

Now a super fancy stock truck!
I have one and like it a lot! Only water issue is the bed itself but only in a car wash and it comes in the rear corners and it’s a Toyota flaw. If u have a bed mat nothing will get wet as water runs underneath.

I ended up with the X series which I think ARE discontinued

If I had it to do over I would get the MX like @OnHartung'sRoad pictured above. That added head room is valuable.

I know this is a 3Gen forum but helping a member pick a cap is important cause they aren’t cheap.

Do get the electric lock upgrade so you can wire to work off your Toyota key fob. Add an electric pop n lock, and both the tailgate and cap door will lock/unlock with truck doors.

Good advice but I don’t have the key fob, just an old fashioned key(utility pkg.)
The X cap I believe was compoite plastic rather than fiberglass was it not?

I currently have a trifold iconic tonneau cover and want to get a cap for mine eventually, just need to save but I like the looks of them a lot and always had them on past trucks..

Hadn’t heard it could possibly be plastic but I’ve drilled some holes in it and the dust seemed to be fiberglass but I really don’t know for sure.

Just placed a down payment on the Overland color match to Cavalry Blue! Hopefully install goes well and it all seals up! What did everyone pay for their cap? I know it varies due to options: I ended up with the fold down rear window, carpet top w/led strip and switch, one windoor (drivers side), Yakima Jet Stream racks. $2800 w/tax.

I went with the MX after also considering the CX and Overland. Overland is really just for looks but is basically the CX. I ended up with MX for head room. I’m also building out the back for camping and sleeping. If your money is tight, go with the CX and get more options. Side windows that pull open like the back window is a great option. Also fold down front window is nice.

I did have issues with water getting in, but it was the installer doing a crappy job not sealing all the holes in the truck bed. The cap itself does not leak. I took care of the bed leaks myself and haven’t had any issue.

I am not all that pleased with the finish details on the rear of the cap. There are gaps in the lower part of the back window between the window and the cap. I ended up makeing my own gaskets to seal up the gaps. The metal frame around the back window is also not cut symmetrical. Nothing functional, it just looks bad. They also did a router cut on either side of the lower back window after the cap was painted. It looks shoddy. I covered it up with gasket material to hide the cut and help seal the windows.

I've had my ARE Overland for quite some time now. Has everything I needed/wanted in a cap. My favorite part is the windoors.

Sorry, I am out of town away from my Taco for awhile so can’t get you exact measurement.

I’d guess it is around 8 ft to the top of the basket. I assume you mean the Yakima basket I have on top.
