For me, one of the best under $100 mods that you can do for this truck.

If you like those it's understandable, but I would recommend giving Skar Audio a try.

I'm running the Subaru kicker tweets in the dash, Skar TX 69's in my front doors, TX 65's in the rear 120w and 100w RMS respectively. Powered them with a Taramps 400w 4ch amp bridged at 200w RMS.

Head unit is a Sony XAV-AX1000 - If I turn the volume up past 15 my ears will bleed.

In my 2004 Taco I had the same amp pushing 4 Infinity Kappa 6X9's. IMO, the Skar setup I have now sounds better overall. Price is a lot less too.

I fell into the hype and did the mod due to everyone acting like it is night and day difference.... its not lol

They maybe sound a little better but nothing crazy, IMO. Certainly not something where you turn the dial and say "wow". If you were swapping all speakers it might make more sense/be more noticeable. Just my 0.02.

Thanks for your assessment. I’ve been reading about this and wondering if it is worth it since I bought my truck. I feel stock sound system is decent. I’ve been in other Toyotas with JBL systems and they are definitely richer than my stock sound but I’ve got other functional upgrades (sliders, rock lights, suspension) to direct my money towards:spending:

3 years and still sounds amazing, I had a RF 8 inch sub/amp combo installed, looks factory, all wires hiden and sits perfect behind the rear pass side seat. Sounds freaking awesome.

Not sure I get the appeal of these. Cant you get any aftermarket dash tweeter? There's a ton of options that are less than $100. Buy from crutchfield and you get free plug and play harnesses. I have only had the truck a couple months and haven't upgraded them yet, am I missing something? (legit question, I'm not trying to be an ass)

Is there something odd with the dash corner speakers on the Taco? In my wife's Carmy I replaced all her speakers with infinity reference's, dash corners were like $60 if I recall.

Example, these are under $60 with free shipping and wiring harness

Getting 3-ways or 2-way speakers for the doors and disconnecting the dash tweeter is a better option. There's absolutely no reason to have 4 tweeters in the front seat. Not to mention the phasing issues you're going to cause.

I think the tweeter upgrade was worth the money, as that is about as far as I want to go with upgrading the sound system in the truck. You definitely get cleaner and brighter high's from these Subaru tweeters. Are they "$100 cleaner and brighter"? Only you can answer that question.

Power from head unit runs through the tweeters to the doors, can't disconnect them without running speaker wire from an amp.

I installed a 5 channel amp in my truck and neglected to upgrade the tweeters thinking new door speakers would suffice...it sounds nice, but missing the highs of a quality tweeter powered by an amp.

Best bet is to contact your local Subaru dealer and ask them to purchase them for you, then go pick them up. Cost me $85.09 plus tax (no shipping charges).

Update: Had them for a month and everyone call tell the difference. For the price they are definitely worth it!

Honestly, I bought the DS18 Pro-ST plug and play tweeters on Amazon, thinking I would upgrade from stock. Turns out the previous owner of my truck had already installed the Subaru Kicker tweeters. I installed the DS18s and to my ear they were an upgrade from the Kickers. Just my .02, but having apparently had both, I'd go with the DS18s. Slightly cheaper, and sound quality at least AS GOOD as the Kickers.

I kept the Kickers, I'd sell them if you want, DM me.
