Most cars and trucks are shipped across country by train to distribution centers. From there they are shipped by truck to dealers.

The thing about vehicles, they are a compilation of parts manufactured from all over the world. All of them.

About a year ago we had one of our Colorados stolen off of our Chevy lot. When we got the truck back, we had to repair the steering column. I ordered about 6 parts and everyone of them came from a different country. The plastic shroud came from America, the rest from Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, China, and South Korea.

Yea, I know, who would want to steal a Colorado?:D

Where in my post does it say that? That would be a stupid thing to say considering most domestic trucks have the majority of parts and assembly done in other countries. My point was simply that buying the same truck assembled in Mexico vs. the US doesn't do anything with regards to putting money in US worker's pockets.

The REAL issue of concern to owners should be issues that tend to be present in trucks manufactured at one plant vs the other. I was reading over on TTORA about a 2009 (I think) that had creaking left front that turned out to be a bad body weld on the inside of the firewall. Toyota had to pull the dash to fix it. Several others chimed in withthe same issue. I am just hoping that my truck wasn't made in the plant or the production run that had that problem.

The closing of the NUMMI plant is a big stink around here. Basically, the plant has a sterling reputation and they have won a lot of awards. With its closing, its the last auto manufacturing plant in the area meaning all those that worked there will probably have to move somewhere else. I feel sorry for those workers. Some had been in the plant for 20+ years. My truck was made in Fremont and its been flawless.

Its at least good that they are having the truck made in San Antonio instead. I hope a lot of the NUMMI workers can relocate there.

I try to buy US made regardless of headquarters of parent company. For example, I work for BFGoodrich (owned by Michelin out of France), but many of the tires (including most of the ones everyone here are buying) are made in the states which means more high paying jobs for US citizens.

My taco is a CA Taco, BTW.

Now they are saying they located one that was made in Otay Mesa, California Plant TMMBC (best price 29,500); it has a 5 starting the vin. I didn't think there was but one California plant; they are saying there are 2.

Otay Meas is near San Diego and VERY near the Mexican plant in Baja "California". There is NO PLANT there....
If your truck has the 5 starting the vin it was made in Fremont. Who ever said that to you is not very informed:help:

It was made at NUMMI in Fremont if the vin starts with a 5. To verify this, get the whole vin # and the 11th digit will be a Z. The Z is the plant ID in the vin.

It is the "internet" sales person at a dealer. He is trying to argue me down that no Tacoma is made in Mexico. I am not going to buy from him but don't mind stirring him up since he is telling folks wrong info.
