Another thing I thought of, if there are serious issue with the 3.5 or the transmission, I HIGHLY doubt Toyota would use this combo for 3 years in the best selling mid-size truck.

just passed 20k, best taco yet and I've owned them all and then some. Basic
minor issues that any new version has and I was one of the first in 2015 so I expected
some things would need tweaking and after they were nothing further. I've spent about
7k in mods at this point and have no thoughts of trading it in.

These people need to let the transmission do its thing and just focus on not crashing. Or just get the Manual like me!

No issues with my '17. Some people just expect too much out of a midsized pickup.

Anyone ever been able to test drive a car for a few hours or even days? I'd like to install both kids car seats and get a feel of what a normal routine drive would be like instead of a 15 minute drive around the block with a salesman.

Yep, there are definitely some issues with the Ridgeline safety sensors, windows, infotainment, gas cap, and defrost heater. Im not very happy of Honda not having standard safety equipment available unless you spend 42k. I like that the Tacoma has all the safety sensors for 36.8k at my local dealer.

To be honest, the biggest concern I have with the Tacoma is being able to fit two kids seats and a 100lb yellow lab in the back when we go camping .

This will be tight in the cab. I have had two toddler seats back there with my 65lb lab mix, it is tight, but works for aropund town & short trips. On the other hand, we have taken my friend's daughter on a few hour road trips and is fine having two ~4 to 5 years old in the back seat with no dog. I would bring both seats to the dealer and see how they fit.

I fit 2 teenagers and a 55 pound lab puppy. You'll be good to go.

Just over 17000 miles on my 2016 Limited and it has been at the Dealership for a little over 2 weeks as they chase down a "miss".

It was one of the first off the line, purchased in late 2015 and built in the US.

As well it has a very noticable vibration on braking with the Chief Mechanic says is "normal" for these trucks.

My 1st. gen Tacoma did not have these issues and my 2006 Frontier did not have these issues, both ran very well with no issues at all.

I love the truck, am a loyal Tacoma fan but WTF!

After getting used to the "long nose" and "Mick Jagger lips"... ;) I've got nothing but satisfaction from my one year old Tacoma.

Did you have them check the drums? There were quite a few at that time
that had warped drums, mine included. After they replaced them both, vibes gone.

OP, good luck with whatever vehicle you decide to buy.

If you buy the Tacoma, you will have the added benefit of the thousands of active members of TW who for the most part are genuinely honest and helpful.

Like any internet forum, there will be occasional false witness spouting trolls who are just here to stir up shit, but after awhile, you should be pretty good at spotting them and seeing through their games.

    Cheers

Sounds like you need a tundra crew max. My wife + 2 (small) kids is already a tight fit and we generally don't take my truck if we're all going somewhere. My 2 year old already kicks the back of my seat. Can't imagine it'll be comfortable on longer drives with bigger kids.

I briefly looked at the F150 but I think it would be too large for parking and my wife wouldn't feel comfortable driving it.

That will be next, right now they seem to be hyper focussed on the "miss".

Who would think that a new vehicle would have warped drums...

Test drive a vehichle a few times and do research on the internet and forums before buying a vehichle. You cant blame a 3rd gen tacoma for you buying it LoL. That being said there is a solution for the concerns people had which had to do with the transmission mostly. Ovtuned Calibration kit

LOL In 2006 I decided that that I did not want to buy new, and did not want to pay the inflated price for a used Tacoma so I took a used Frontier for a test drive, it was solid, fast, and comfortable to drive, low balled the dealer, they said no, I left the lot, 2 weeks later they called back and asked if I was serious, I said yes, my original offer still stood, 30 minutes later they phoned back and said sold.

Traded in the 2 wheel drive 4 banger Tacoma access cab on it, I decided to upgrade because of growing family.

It was a little more thirsty than my current Tacoma and did not have the same level of comfort as the Tacoma, but, never went back to the dealer with it either due to issues...

Got rid of it and bought the Tacoma in 2015.
