getting ready to switch from manual to power mirrors and wondered if there were other mirrors that would fit our trucks and have a better look? all I have found so far is just swapping the smaller 96-00 mirrors over to the 01-04 mirrors and for good reason, those early mirrors weren't much to speak of.

so are there any non taco version toyota power mirrors anyone has ever used on a taco?

I have no complaint with the taco mirrors, I just wanted to see if there were any other options out there that I might fit so I can see if I prefer any different shape, size, or style in a mirror.

What I did because my truck is used for work .

Was to use plastic weld to attach 5" round mirrors to the top of my stock mirrors which are to small for my liking .

It works for me . Because I back up all the time.

Some people love the idea .

it does sound very useful, probably not the prettiest look though :p

like I mentioned above, lots of people just switch from the small mirrors on the older trucks like yours and put the bigger 01-04 mirrors that are more like the big truck mirrors.

I guess no one has done anything to swap the mirrors to something else or they just chose not to comment.

what I had in mind was thinking along the lines of a lower profile car mirror since I find I have extremely good visibility all around so a slimmer more compact mirror would be fine. plus these manual mirrors tend to move every time someone closes the door so im readjusting them once or twice a week so im thinking I need a new tighter mirrors anyway that wont move so easy. im also not a fan of the stick hanging out like that to adjust them

We converted manual mirrors from a '99 Taco by swapping in power mirrors from '01-'04 Tacos. I do recall those manual mirrors were always going out of adjustment, whether bumped on the outside housing or just the wash mitt on the mirror glass - PIA for sure!
That will not be the case with the power mirrors. The outside housing is completely stable with only an option to fold in completely or out completely, i.e., no wiggle. Same with the mirror glass - the power mechanism does not allow for easily pushing the glass out of adjustment. I know you will be happy with the change. You will adjust those mirrors once, then rarely or never touch the button again.

We used '01-'04 Taco mirrors when we did ours because it is a perfect swap in/out and, as you noted, they are far superior to the '95-'00 offerings. Since we had to do our own wiring, we had some flexibility in being able to use other Toyota models for the power mirror button. I can't remember which Toyota car we got the mirror adjustment switch out of but it was a perfect match, the same as the mirror switch in my '02 Taco. We had no luck finding any direct bolt mirror options with other Toyotas, but the local wrecking yard only had Toyo cars, no trucks, but YMMV. The car mirrors would have all been too small anyway, even if we could have found a direct bolt-up option.

One thing to be aware: aftermarket, so-called OEM power mirrors can be/are garbage compared to genuine Toyota mirrors. Those after market housings will invariably lend themselves to a mirror glass assembly that vibrates like crazy and will drive you nuts. Be careful with the long distance wrecking yards - we found the passenger mirror from one out-of-state wrecking yard, all fine and well, but the other yard we found had advertised a driver's side mirror (out of a 2001) but sent us a brand new after market "OEM" mirror instead, noticeably inferior. I about had a fit. They took it back, along with an earful from me. What's the world coming to when even the wrecking yards are trying to peddle new (cheap) after market parts?! We ended up biting the bullet and paying the price for a new power mirror from Toyota for the driver's side and it was money well spent. Good luck with your project.

thanks, yes I am hoping to get oem if I can but may end up with aftermarket as a last resort. problem is in pricing as lots of salvage yards want 75% of the cost of buying brand new oem rather then a reasonable 25-50% of new price as it should be.

i was arguing with one of those online salvage yards that wants $60 for a stock cd radio !!!!! I mean c'mon its a stock radio not a top of the line stereo lol. I just prefer stock and im too old to "jam out" so stock is all I need or want so it looks all original. i offered him $30 then i upped it to $40 because it looked new but he said no so I told him to shove it and will continue looking for one at a "reasonable" price.

I was curious if there were any other oem mirror swap options out there but I guess its taco or nothing so I will source some taco power mirrors.

and yes even my 99 had problems with mirrors moving every time a passenger closed the door too hard but they stayed better then the manuals on my 04. these things move with every normal door close unless you try to be very gentle

I did not think of this because I forget Since I am the only one ever to drive my truck.

I have my mirrors adjusted then a tiny bead of clear silicone holds them from not moving if I need to move them ever a knife removes the silicone.

Looks like those are only available for the second gens, we are talking about 1st gens here.

Wish we could use those, they would be awesome to have as the stock mirrors suck!
