Are there any tailgate cap protectors?

Bought the truck with a pretty nasty dent in the tailgate. I’ve used a spot welder and a mallet to make it a lot better but I’m still left with this. I’ve seen trucks with tailgate caps that come down like 2 or 3 inches. Wondering if they make those for Tacoma’s to cover this up? I haven’t been able to find any.

Yes. Companies like Mobtown and Relentless fab make metal caps to replace the hem plastic.

 

Ours is a true reinforcement made from one piece of metal with 4 separate bends in it that adds significant strength and rigidity. Also the original, in production since 2011

 

Throw in a set of bed stiffeners and call it a day.
That way you fix both weak points at once.
