The Gorilla lugs measure ~.795 on the bottom bulge and ~.695 on the spline section.
I bet they would tumble a lot, unless you could rifle the barrel.

If I still had access to a lathe I could turn them to a uniform .69 thousandths to test that out as well.

Might be more work than it's worth though.

They are hub centric, so most of the force will be transferred to that lip when put under load. That makes sense.

I suppose I'll see if they have the larger style nuts, probably not in the spline configuration, but that's okay.
I'd rather be safe than sorry right? Even though I hate returning things I bought online, it's such a hassle.

Gosh, funny you brought that up, I still have my Stevens 311, 410 ga. side by side dbl. brl. I bought new in 1963 with the money I got from selling a calf, from a cow my father had given me. I was 9 yr. old & I'm thinking the gun was $64.00. My brother & I both got one the same time, our first shotguns. We both still have them & both still working like new & neither have ever had anything fixed or done to them. I think the 410 is called a ga. but actually is a 41 caliber as a rifle. anything from .410 thru .419 is considered a 41 cal. .240 thru .249 is 24 cal .300 thru .309 is 30 cal. etc. Hey, Wait a minute, who got this gun stuff started in this Tacoma site?? Heck ya'll ain't supposed to do that!!!

Anyone who has regular access to your nuts can kill you at any time. Serious security issue.

the new Stevens/Savage model 301 (break action, single shot, block safety) I just got is definitely made in China, but like I said, for the $ I’m pretty happy. The rail is kinda dumb (wish it just had a rear low-profile ghost ring), but it came w/ an extra full choke, weighs nothing, busts in half easy and fits in the game bag on the back of my vest, plus it has a legit extractor that pops the spent shell out nicely...

Didn't read thru the thread. Install lugs nuts, drive for a day or 3, then recheck the torque. You DO have a torque wrench don't you? ;)

There is a lot of overthought on this thread.

Toyota uses two methods of holding a wheel down without the lugs backing off. Lug centric/ hub centric is what they do. The wheel uses the hubs to lock it down as a first security blanket then it relies on the lugs as a secondary security blanket. Those gorilla lugs are similar to the tuner lugs.

Personally I use tuner lugs and have impact tightened hundreds over the years if not thousands including my own tuner lugs. None have ever split. OP is really overthinking this. Just install the bastards and move about your day. You will be able to tell immediately if the lugs are not right because they will keep attempting to tighten even after tight and if they had a washer the washer would warp.

If he doesn't know how to torque wheels with an impact gun then I would suggest a torque wrench. Otherwise he's good to go.

I use an impact on those thin-wall sockets all the time. (with a torque stick of course)

.. but i got extras if they split :D

I tend to do that, you should see the discussion I had on mpgs. Wayyy too much overthinking going on there.
I enjoy the detail stuff though so :notsure:

I ordered another set, when they arrive I'll compare them and return the ones that I don't use.

Was the last paragraph just worded funny or am I missing something, how else would you torque wheel nuts without an impact except with a torque wrench?

I misworded it. I apologize. I meant if you don't know how to torque wheels WITH a torque wrench...

It's called a torque stick. It attaches to the impact gun and is rolled in such a way that limits torque based on how tightly it is rolled. In a way, it's a glorified socket extension, but it's a calibrated socket extension.

    Ah ha, gotcha.
When I worked at Ford some of the technicians there called them rainbow sticks

Getting them touqued is easy enough, I was more worried about the structural integrity of the wheels themselves. If the smaller contact patch would cause higher stress.

    o_O structural integrity?

Dude I've jumped my truck on those little tuner lugs and continue to use the same 24 to this day. I have used nothing but an impact on them all of their life and with all the rotational, torsional, and impact stresses my hub/ wheels/ lugs have seen since 2012, nothing and I mean nothing has broken. Just install the things and go have yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea and move onto more important priorities that life has to offer. There's no sense in losing sleep over that kind of thing at night.

That's just my good advice to you. Lol.
