I have a set of open diff., non-abs axle shafts from a '99 lying around. Are they the same as TRD axles?

I think the locker axles have a different number of splines.

Dont non trd use the 8.4” axel vs trd 8” but i think ive heard you can put 8.4” shafts into a 8” think they have the same spline count and same length

Yeah, there's the 8/8.4" thing too. I hadn't heard about running 8.4 shafts in the 8" though.

You could always do a part number search to find out for sure.

It is more accurate to say e-locker axles (which are always 8" ring gear).

The axles for the open diff rear (8.4") are not the same as the ones for the e-locker diff rear. Also, all axles for the 8" elocker rear are ABS axles. Even if the truck is not equipped with ABS.

I've had Toyota tech writers mess that up. They ask the wrong question. "Does the truck have ABS. The answer is No. They then proceed to order the wrong axle. FWIW, the non-ABS axle will install and will even not leak for a little while.

    Yes, this is personal experience.

Interesting. I guess this is why they ask that...that's how the parts list differentiates...

Locked front and rear, bumpers, sliders, cage etc..33" Cooper STT PRO's. Mild suspension lift.
This is the gospel right here ^^^^^^ . I can't tell you how many arguments I've been in over the years about this. For instance: My '97 std cab V-6 came with an e-locker rear from the factory (stand-alone option before TRD was offered). The rear axle assy has ABS provisions but the truck has no ABS. Pull the axle shaft and wallah, an ABS tone ring. The housing also has bolted teardrop shaped cover over the speed sensor hole.
