New member here, same hard decision. I've got following quotes for shells, located Utah. same features on all brands: Dual vented windoors, Tilt slider front, LED dome light, Carpeted interior, Yakima or Thule tracks only.

SnugTop Rebel: $2879 out the door (tax, install, etc...), seems crazy high, only one dealer in UT

    ARE V-series:$2240 out the door

Leer 100XR: $2719 out the door

Was going to go with the ARE as I didn't read the fine print on the rebate offer excluding the V-series, was pissed to read that fine print.... It's still the cheapest, but it also isn't as refined as the others and you can see the difference in the c-clamps to mount it and less refined back window. I don't like the Leer vented Windoors, the horizontal break looks terrible. I can get $120 off the SnugTop as they are offering the free tilt front slider now, that will bring it in line with the Leer. There are multiple Leer and ARE shops, but just one SnugTop. None seem willing to deal.

Will be going on a 2017 Magnetic Grey DCLB TRDOR. Truck gets delivered January 20th. Need decide and order soon.

$2240 out the door seems really high

I got my ARE v series for 1410 out the door with install and the with the sliding front window double locks and carpet

What options did you include in that quote?

Options for all were the same for each brand listed in my first paragraph. The Windoors add $300-$600 depending on brand. Also added dual locks to the ARE rear door.

    Leer 100XR: $2719 out the door <---OUCH

I was able to get a carpeted XL with sliding rear window for under 2k! It doesn't have the 'tilting' front window which allows for cleaning but my other one didn't have that either. Leer only does thule and I'm more of a Yakima fan. Either way 3-400 more for the rack on top wasn't worth it for me. I said in my other post if I decide to do a rack on the shell I'll end up putting the Toyota 4runner cargo rack on it with Yakima rail riders. (since I already have the components for it)

The DOWN side of doing that though is the warranty if voided then. If you plan to put a tent on the back I would probably spend the 3-400 to have leer install the rack for if you break the shell they should hopefully cover it unless they have a load limit.

One thing I wish leer did was to tint the windows darker I might end up having an aftermarket tint applied to this shell.

Yeah, that's why I'm posting here to see what's reasonable. The Leer is out because I don't like their windoors. May have a better deal on a ARE Overland, which appears to be a beefed up V-series. Working on that option now.

I just ordered an ARE CX HD with X bars and windoors. Also got free carpet and tilt down slider. The HD and ARE X bars were a 650$ extra.

My ARE dealer said they are no longer selling the CX for the 3rd gen Tacoma. Said they are redesigning it due to fit issues.

I didn't like the sliding windows of my old leer that is why I ended up going to the next level which was the XL I believe that has the 'crank out' rear windows for ventilation. I do like the 'lip' that leer put on the back of the campershell when it closes down to the wider tailgate.

I haven't had the truck out lately otherwise I would throw a picture of it up on here. Good luck with your search.

Last week I had my dealer contact ARE with a list of questions on fit, paint match and the HD set up. I guess the 3 gen has a different bed side height and was reworked. Well hopefully I did not get lied to. If so they will sending it back.

Here are what prices look like when large-item shipping costs an arm and a leg and you only have 1 dealer to choose from for Leer and Snugtop.

If I had to do it all over again, this is almost certainly the cap I'd get.

My fully-loaded Leer 100XR leaks like crazy. Dealer tried to seal it three times - failed. I did a stupid amount of sealing work myself and it seemed to hold up initially, but now it's back to leaking like a waterfall. Both front bed corners, both windows let in water. And it was $4400CAD out the door. Not impressed at all.

Sam T. Evans for Leer and SnugTop, Truck Trim Mfg. for ARE.

No opinion on who is easier to work with yet, both are starting off very expensive with first rounds of quotes. Will order my shell tomorrow, so I'll know who is ready to deal when I get ready to spend my $$$.

Go talk to your Century dealer. Their toppers come out of the Leer factory using the same molds, go through the same paint booth, get the same windows installed, and then they check the order to figure out which logo to install. Same warranty.

I think I paid $1700 for this. Maybe it was $1800?

Looks a bit like a Leer 100XR, eh?

I de-badged mine and then put them back on. Didn't like the look of the funny Leer-shaped logo inset underneath.

I had an ARE V Series on my last two trucks. And they held up great. Never leaked. That's why I stuck with them.

I need to get a picture of mine but the rear window looks different than the one I have on my truck. (leer) It looks like the window comes STRAIT down where as mine as a 'lip' on the bottom of it to contour a bit more with the thick rear tailgate.

My "Century" has a lip that sticks out at least an inch.
