Christ All Mightly, this thread is like two groups of high schoolers yelling at each other at either end of a parking lot.

That or some West Side Story inspired dance off.

    First some background:
I don't own a Tacoma, have never owned a Tacoma. I have owned a 1963 F-250 (bought in 1989 with 1400 miles on the odometer) a 1962 Chevy Apache "street rod", a 1994 Dakota bought new, and currently own a 2002 Dakota R/T reg cab bought new. Trucks have always been the "extra vehicle" never the main daily driver.

The Tacoma I have on order will be the first truck that will be my daily transportation, replacing the Dogkota R/T and my 1998 Mazda 626 with over 250K on the odo. Full size trucks are out for me, too big. If I NEEDED a truck because I had to haul/tow shit often, I wouldn't even look at a Tacoma, I would buy an F150. And then bitch about how damn big it was, anytime I wasn't hauling/towing.

What intrigued me early on in my selection process, was that Gen 1 and Gen 2 owners had two very distinct complaints. Big complaint number one was that the new design was nothing more than a warm over of the old design with nothing really new. Big complaint number two was that they ruined the Tacoma by changing everything. Yeah.

So here goes my earth shattering evaluation of the Gen 3 Tacoma styling...
I like it enough, that's it. I'm not head-over-heels in love with the styling, but none of the trucks made today are anything to brag about. I certainly do not understand the huge outcry over the grille. It's not like any other truck made today is an awesome mind-fucking design.

And here is my earth shattering evaluation of the Gen 1/2 Tacoma styling...
I like it enough, that's it. It isn't an over the top beautiful design like a 1965 Ferrari 250 GTO like some seem to think it is. Plus, I'm sure i would get tired of having to stop every ten miles to remove the panties from the windshield thrown at me by supermodels.

Love these threads! It's a freakin truck. I have owned Toyota trucks since 1983. A burnt orange 4 banger with a four speed MT. Bought it in Guam when I was overseas. They always start. They get me where I want to go even in adverse conditions. I have loved them all even through their quirks. Remember the great rust debacle of 1988. I love my 3rd gen. Simply if you don't like don't buy. A land rover is 3x the money and if you gave me one I'd sell it and buy a Tacoma, and give the remaining cash to the wounded warrior fund.

It's growing on me & that image from TacoSeattle makes the case very well.

I bought a 15 knowing that the 16's were coming as a complete redesign, I just didn't want to beta test a new platform.

Initially I thought they were ugly as sin but each time I see one I have a different opinion and those opinions are getting more receptive of it each time.

It's not just Toyota that has the "Big Grille", and "Blocky styling" thing going on.
I kinda wonder how much the stylists are influenced by "Marketing Analysts" that have "Proved" that what consumers are subconsciously looking for in a pickup and SUV is the attitude of "Toughness, and aggression", making then think that the vehicle is tough enough to take whatever the buyer throws at it?
There's no real reason for the sharp angles and creases in the sheet metal other then to give the appearance of being "Tough", and "Strong", and "Aggressive", as far as I can see. Sharp angles seem to project the tough attitude more then rounded corners.
    Just a thought...

Yeah, I'm over the styling of the 2016 Tacoma. Keeping the 2nd gen.

I work at Toyota, and when I first saw them I couldn't stand them, now that I see them everyday, they have grown on me, and I love the new truck.

When I was first interested in buying a Taco I wasn't a fan of the 3rd get styling. Looked for a new holdover 2015 until I saw a 2016 in person. The initial pics I saw weren't flattering but in person I really liked the truck better so went that direction instead. Plus the new interior is much nicer in my opinion

Funny how those that complain the most do not own the truck or don't plan to. I think the majority actually like the appearance. If I post a picture of a young Cindy Crawford, you're sure to see some of these dudes show up:06b2360998d45805199df26e76d512eb_d81608c9931e8c86014c6d99dc7a08450807a55b.jpg

When my '16 TRD sport had the TRD grille on it, I would have said I liked the styling of the truck a lot but preferred the looks of the 2nd generation Tacoma. But the '16 has it all over the 2nd generation in terms of comfort and goodies.

Now that I've swapped out the grille for a SR grille, I love the looks of it and would put it over the 2nd gen in every possible category.
