After someone I know got hit in the head with a piece of wood with a nail in it (the wood slipped off of a pallet while he was removing it from up high) we discussed how the possibility of him getting sick from the rusty nail (not sure if the nail was what cut him) and the topic of dying from it came up.

He said that his biggest fear was of dying.

I told him I wasn't afraid of death.

He shook his head and repeated that it was something that he worries about all of the time.

I couldn't understand why he was and when questioned, he really didn't have an answer. So this got me to wondering what others felt.

Are you afraid of dying? Why or why not?

Well yes and no. Do I want to die, absolutely not. Do I know it could happen at any second, yup. Do I walk around (or not walk around) fearing that I may die at any second, no.

yes. i am not a religious man. religion probably gives many folks peace about dying. worth the price of admission? i dont think so.

but i am afraid of dying. strangely it gets easier with age. as i get older, i am coming to grips with it..i imagine at 90 years old..i will either high-five the grim reaper, or kick him in his skeletal nuts. either way, he will take a swing at me.

for sure, i am afraid of suffering to death. a quick peaceful death would be welcomed.

    ^This.

I don't want to die, but I'm not afraid of it. The possibility of being paralyzed or severly injured is a fear of mine though.

    This^

I believe that when you die, thats it. No afterlife, no reincarnation. Just nothing. I know thats hard to imagine for a lot of people and everyone is alowed to have their opinion, bc thats just what it is.

If it happens it happens and there is no use in worrying about it. I love my life right now and I dont want to die any time soon but am I afraid? No.

I was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago. I tell my wife that every day that I wake up on the green side of the grass it's going to be a good day. Afraid, no. Ready, hell no! Being dead is the easy part. Surviving is much harder work!

    Yeah.
It's not something I worry about, it is inevitable, and you never know when your number is up. When I am on a plane and it gets really bumpy, I worry -- not about myself, but my daughters. Flying never affected me that way until I had kids, I used to think bumpy was fun.

I've seen people I know die doing the same work I do. I know what I do is dangerous and we try our best to mitigate risk daily. That being said, its on my mind every time we go out now. I try to just brush it off as fate. My time will come someday. I just want it to be quick.

I'm not afraid of death, but hope it doesn't happen for quite a while!! I am however, curious to know what really happens after you die.

not really. i don’t want to die. also i want to die in a fun way. most just want ot be sitting down and fall over. i would be mad and a pissed off dead person if that happened to me. i would not care if i was ride/racing dirk bikes or atvs around and crashed really back and died. or died sky diving(never been but want to go) i also wish i had the money for a sport bike. if i was riding that and died i would not mind either. i just don’t want to be sleeping and never wake up,or be eating and just fall over dead.

also would not care if i died on some crazy ass slip and slide or something.

after watching some of my closest loved ones pass on (asked to pull the plug) I don't fear it as much as before. In fact the very moments before their vitals stopped they seemed completely at peace and said they could see their family members. Death is just the beginning of another journey.

No, I don't have a family so right now I have nothing to lose really. Once I have a family I will probably rethink this theory.
