Are you afraid of new generation Toyotas?

You could say I am a Toyota kind of guy. I own a 2011 Camry XLE, 2nd gen Tacoma, 3rd gen Tacoma and just sold my 2011 Corolla. When 2nd gen tacomas first hit the lot in 2005 I drove one home. That same truck sits dutifully in my garage right now. It has never seen a repair bay nor left me stranded....not even once. The first week or so that the 3rd gen tacos hit the lot I drove one of them home also. I did not even think twice nor bat an eye at the thought of the unknowns of a new generation machine. When the 4th gen Tacos hit the lot I will drive one of them home also (if I am still alive). Toyota has my loyalty because they have earned it. The minute I think that Toyota is not the world class leader of reliability I will not hesitate to change brands of autos but until then I am Yoda all the way.

I think the rust issue left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I had a 2006 Tacoma that sat at the dealer for 5 1/2 months to get a new frame. I traded it in on a 2016 last week once I got it back with the new frame.

Not afraid, but what I don't get is why they make each generation of the "little truck" bigger? Not only is the 3rd Gen literally bigger, but strictly in my opinion, the styling looks like a mid-size truck trying to look like a full-size. For the money, I honestly think when the time comes to replace my 2nd Gen, I'll be looking at full-size trucks; probably a Tundra. :notsure:

That's my opinion, no offense intended to anyone.

I do have some concerns of the sort you have. I even had concerns about buying one of the first trucks off the assembly line. In my case, I needed a 4x4 before the winter so, having decided on the 2016 Tacoma, I had no choice but to get one of the first produced. If I'm less worried now, it's because very little in the new 2016s represents new technology. Ironically, the posts that have complained about that have reassured me.

Still, if we can believe Mr. Sweers, almost every part in the 2016 is different, and there's always the potential for problems. Even a small part not fitted quite right can cause big trouble. Some uncertainty will always be there when buying a redesigned vehicle.

No worries for me from the two best auto companies...Toyota & Honda. I'd be happy to drive out and early production unit from either and not be concerned.

Not really for the vehicle, if I felt I needed a new vehicle (I don't)

However, I'd fear for my wallet. o_O

I just need a basic truck, not one all gussied up. And smaller would be fine. The 'growth' of everything is nuts. Even new Corollas are the size of Camrys of just a few years ago. Happens in all product lines, but it's still a shame.

I'll admit I'm still a bit worried buying a newly re-designed truck especially since this is my first Toyota ( 20+ years with Ford ). The only problem I've ever had with Ford was a first year run back in '96,tranny problems. I've had my share of problems over the years with first run year sleds, bikes and cars but after reading all the reviews from owners now and meeting up with Mike33OR and checking his out I'm a little less. Time will tell:fingerscrossed:

My only worry/concern is them making these trucks into a luxury vehicle... They keep finding things to add to the vehicle during the factory build to just hike that price tag up and up and up. Partly why I had to build my truck so I don't have to worry about extra fluff I don't want to pay for and don't need. Its not hard to make this Tacoma cost $40k now...

I agree. But there are some who are outraged that there isn't yet more luxury stuff on the 2016, like power seats. It's getting so that vehicles are designed as if the auto-buying public are all physically handicapped.

A lot of car brands have power seats standard across all models. I for dont care much about that. I will be the only one driving my truck haha. But you are correct. at least they made NAV standard in the TRD and up.
